part of the new MLB licensing agreement with Sony. It was either make the game multiplatform or allow other companies to make their own MLB game.

Should be a boon for Studio San Diego.

It's just going to get more interesting when the ZeniMax/Microsoft acquisition goes through. All those games will be made under the Microsoft Game Studio banner I'd think but appear on every console out there.

If you want to play Diamond Dynasty, do not pre order yet. Wait until they drop the deluxe pre order, a much bigger benefit

The Microsoft store has a preorder ($70) that comes with gold packs (or something like it) and mentions Diamond Dynasty. I assume that this is the version, yes?

That’s still the standard. They’ll drop the information tomorrow about the collectors edition/deluxe edition (I think they’re calling it collectors edition this year).

Usually it’s in the range of 100 bucks but honestly it usually gives you a bunch of really nice cards to start off

Best thing about SDS is you don’t need to use money (outside of initial game purchase) to have a God squad/99 overall team. With how they do diamond dynasty, here were some of the free cards they gave out this year: (you do have to grind the game a little bit to get these but they’re all not too bad, nowhere near madden/fifa level grinding)

99 overall: Honus, Ruth, Ripken, Gibson, Foxx, Seaver, Ortiz, Larry Walker, Rivera, Griffey Jr, Jackie Robinson, Musial, Maddux, Orel, and so many more players.

This isn’t like Madden where 99 Mahomes requires 250 bucks

For the collection reward, I’m really hoping we see Clemente or Aaron as the overall collection reward. That would be incredible. Also wishful thinking but I’m hoping Mauer is the AL collection reward. I need a MVP Mauer card in my life desperately

I understand the point you are going for, but you are a little off base, at least with this year's Madden imo

Ive only spent $5 a week and my team is 96 OVR, hell the latest promos of 96/97 ovrs are only 2-300k coins, which isnt a lot and far easier to come by than Mlb imo

That was true this year, but that has not always been the case. Content was great in 2020, but there have been years where it has very much been pay-to-play.

I think I spent $20 early on this year and nothing else and I have the best team I've ever had and something like $400k stubs...and I started with the standard game (my son bought it this year so he got the goodies that come with the deluxe edition).

Not sure I will spend anything this year.

I just hope they don't decide to monetize things to milk the XBox players for all they're worth (and we become collateral damage). Also looking forward to all the newbies from the XBox.

I just watched the stream from yesterday, what is everyone's thoughts on the new pitching option? I've always used meter in the past and I'm not sure if I'll make the effort to convert to the new option or not. Tried analog a couple times and wasn't horrible, but have just gotten really good at using meter.

I'm gonna have to try it out. I use pulse just because I felt I was consistent with it. I remember mlb 2k had pitching like that and it was fun.

Also this gets me excited because if they just casually drop Clemente on a Monday morning in a gameplay video, it makes me think we’ve got some MAJOR legends coming this year. If Clemente was the best they had, they’d wait until a later stream closer to the game.

I don’t think he’ll be the MLB collection reward, I doubt they’d release him like that if so. I’m thinking NL collection reward for his 99 along with an early diamond in the pre release packs of like an 86 overall

NL collection reward would be awesome. Although I can't really imagine a new legend that is more desired than Clemente. They did release mays and ruth pretty early in the trailer cycle when they debuted in the game. Should be interesting!

They’re starting to drop some TA stage 1 cards, and they’re looking good so far

For those new to diamond Dynasty, there are stages for each specific MLB team. Completing challenges gives you points towards their Team Affinity (TA) and you can unlock packs/cards/stubs really anything. So stage 1 for every team has a diamond player in the 85-89 range which are very useful for the first couple of months of DD. Players we’ve seen so far

Cubs - Jason Heyward
Orioles- Anthony Santander
Diamondbacks - Ketel Marte
Pirates - Ke'Bryan Hayes
Rangers - Joey Gallo
Twins - Jose Berrios
Reds- Luis Castillo

That would be nice, but I think we will still see a range. I do think stage 3 will still be around 97-99 just because of when they start releasing 99s if it's similar to last year

I would like if they did push back the drop of the 99s, perhaps if they did like the big legends and flashbacks collection reward is the first 99 besides AL/NL/MLB collection rewards. With the Legends and flashbacks around late July, then have an inning boss big drop in early August with stud 99s as well

Finally purchased my pre order, now I've got that countdown going on. Can't wait to wake up next Friday and dive in

The other 5 legends in the pre order packs are being released tomorrow on the stream. Stream tomorrow is mainly next gen and stadium creator. Don't have a PS5 yet but will hopefully buy one sometime in the summer. Stadium creator just looks like it'll be so much fun. Just don't wanna pay the price for a reseller PS5 right now. 500ish I am fine with, 800-850, nah.

What's everyone's plan for opening day of the stream? I'm planning on ripping all the pre order bonus for sure, but then I am putting in enough cash to buy 2 50 pack bundles. That'll give me around 110 standard packs to open to build an early inventory. I am planning on not putting too much money in this year besides the game purchase and the initial pack opening.

After ripping the packs, I am planning on grinding the USA conquest map, always a ton of rewards and lots of games with my current team.

Also will work on Twins TA first, really want that Berrios.

They did say there are 40 LS diamonds this year, excited to see the new diamond loadout

My opening day plans will be heavily influenced by the team collections lol. If Roberto is a collection reward ill be going nuts. If he isn't I probably will do a couple bundles. Need to grind for Hayes ASAP

Basically 1 week away now... I ended up caving and buying an xbox series X from a reseller on Monday. Already arrived, setup, and just pre-ordered the Digital Deluxe version in anticipation of next Friday's release.

As for opening day itself, I will also be monitoring the status of the Clemente card. If it's the NL collection reward, it's going to be difficult to grind for all that's needed and not just spend my way into it. #1 card want for the past 2 years right there, so will be interesting to see what happens.

When they first announced Clemente, I was thinking for sure it would be the MLB collection reward, but now I'm thinking Aaron will fill that slot and Clemente will be released as a 4-5th inning reward.

As for gameplay, I'm planning on a mix of conquest, the 1st event (if it launches on early-access day), and RS. How much I play USA conquest will depend on the reward. If it's a high contact speedster like Cobb a couple years ago, I will play a lot more vs the low diamond Mays rookie from last year.

I know it’s one week into the season, but if Buxton is going to stay healthy and play like this, and we get a 99 Buxton Finest with maxed out speed and fielding and over 100 power versus lefties, game over

I'm gonna throw out some predictions and see how right they are when it comes to the start of the game with collections/first inning program/etc

For the First inning program, I think the Henchmen will be gold John Smoltz, gold Piazza, and gold Brooks Robinson

Bosses will be Alfonso Soriano, Fernando Valenzuela, and Honus Wagner. All around 91-92 overall

My hopeful wish is they acquired the rights for the Negro League and the first inning bosses are Negro League stars such as Gibson, Satchel, Cool Papa Bell, but I'll roll with a more basic prediction for the first inning.

For the collection rewards, here are my guesses. So the individual team collections will have players around 85-88 diamonds, division will have 91-93 diamonds and then the AL/NL/MLB collection will be high end 99 diamonds.

I'm going to be trying out streaming this year on twitch. Already have my PC setup and everything ready to go, just waiting for opening night. First thing I plan to do is grind the 1st inning program and some team affinities. I normally spend a little bit of money on the game and open some packs opening night but had decided to go NMS this year. Now that I've invested money into streaming I almost feel like spending some money on packs would be a nice way to start off the content.

Either way, I have taken off of work Friday so I will be playing/streaming non-stop (other than sleep which will be little) starting at 11:00 PM CST Thursday night and I can't wait.

Excuse me if I'm wrong, but isn't MLB the Show usually released before the season starts? I was looking in the playstation store today to buy and it's not getting released until 4.20.21. I can't remember having to wait this long for the MLB game.

The combination of adding Xbox cross platform AND next gen consoles with the pandemic slowing down production caused them to delay the game by a month this year. Unfortunate but they had to do what they had to do

Question....for the PS4 guys. decided not to pop for the PS5......went into my PS4 and pre-ordered so I can play all night Friday at midnight......ordered the deluxe, but it didnt que into my PS4 downloads.....any advice?

Does the download pop in there before it's released? I am not sure if it does or not. I'll check mine

Always been an xbox fan so haven't played any mlb games in years so I'm really looking forward to this. With the announcement of it being free from day 1 with gamepass do you still recommend the $100 pre-sale bundle?
I appreciate the updates you guys have been posting and I'm trying to follow along but I don't know how most of the extras actually work.

If you are planning to play Diamond Dynasty then the $100 digital deluxe is a great option, although not necessary. What it does is give you a couple diamond players, packs, and stubs. It will give you a head start on building a nice team along with some stubs to help you play around on the market and make more. I would check out cbrev on YouTube and watch his videos pertaining to MLB 21. He has probably the most helpful content for new players that will really help you understand what you need to do, along with the benefits of starting with the bonuses that the $100 version offers.

The $85 version is far better value. The $100 version is unnecessary and doesn't really provide you much more than the $85 version.

So which TA players is everyone planning on going after first?

I'm going to play a lot of showdown (I usually just skip to the very end) and grind for Gallo, Yordan, Franmil, and Salvy. All have butter swings and should be able to stay in the lineup for a long time. Curious to see how fielding is this year. In 19 you could throw anyone out there you wanted and they would make almost every play, in 20 not so much.

Probably start with Gallo at 3rd, Yordan in left, and Franmil in right.

Ketel Marte, Muncy, and Bichette are also a few that I will go after but the guys listed above are a priority.
