Wow this is terrible news! Retail exclusive to F'n Walmart. Means I'll have to drive already endlessly for nothing. If Illusions is Walmart exclusive maybe there is a chance Chronicles is Target exclusive. At least then I can save the time of driving to Walmarts pointlessly looking for Chronicles.

Am I reading this right that with literally zero notice this product is coming out tomorrow?

Wow this came out of nowhere. The First Buzz thread was started on June 8 and there was basically no news since then. No pre-orders on BO and all of a sudden this just shows up?

Why? I'm almost positive at no time has Walmart or Walmart CA had preorders or links available to order for Mosaic or Chronicles basketball.

Terrible product with way too many parallels. I wouldn't even waste a trip to Walmart looking for this.

You’d think Panini and/ or Walmart would want people to know about a new product they might want to buy rather than sneakily release it with little notice.

Between Chronicles retail releasing sometime soon and Illusions retail maybe showing up, things are going to get even crazier in the trading card aisle at Walmart in the next few weeks.

It will sell out regardless, no-one need any notice - if you see basketball you buy it even if you hate it. This is the Blowout Forum, in a few weeks a bunch of people that bought up a crap ton of retail are going to start posting about how this is the product of the year and post up lots of dollar signs and big money signs then you can if you really hate it unload it all to the simps.

It reminds me of Essentials from 17-18.

A lot of people wouldn't touch Status of Threads last year (myself included for awhile). Any chance in hell this sits on the shelves like those did?

Mystique base insert looks cool, otherwise P.U.

hell, panini could have some employee hand write some cartoon pictures of nba basketball players on pieces of toilet paper, package them 4 in a pack, then 7 packs in a blaster box and they would sell out at walmart or target or online.

Terrible photography, design is fine but most of the insert sets are way too similar to the base design.

There are some similarities, but I think the photography for Essentials was quite good. I'm also a big fan of the Swish Kings insert and the Platinum parallel (among may other inserts that are nice looking).

I think this looks good.

The way Panini is releasing this product seems really strange. I just assumed it was delayed because I've seen almost no mention of it, very few pre-orders, and 0 breaks offered. In addition, it's not even listed on Panini's website and chronicles just came out.

Yeah it’s very odd. This is a hobby direct product so we should see it on the Panini website. Maybe they are trying to combat bots with a surprise launch?

Walmart US does not have Illusions listed yet. Canada does. Wonder why that is.

Canada has been getting stuff before the states for some crazy reason.

Is it worth rolling in to my Walmart first thing before work? Never tried to chase a rep or whatever.

I will never see this stuff in my metro area there only 2 Walmart’s close by that have cards and they are snatched up as soon as they are put out. Oh well. Like someone said I wonder if chronicles is target exclusive like they did with prizm draft and chronicles

Not sure. Nobody hinted at the US link being live until after the Canada link was already up. The US link just doesn’t exist right now. It’s not that it isn’t searchable.

There was a rumor in the baseball section that MJH had sold a significant portion of its Chronicles stock to a third party. Should be able to figure out soon if that’s happened here.

That was my first thought as well! I really dig the base set but the inserts and hits are weak.

Nunn today at my Walmart. The whole display was filled out with magic and Pokémon which was interesting. No space for sports cards at all, which was not the case a few weeks ago.

My local Walmart also had nothing new at open today.

I’ve noticed this too at my Walmart they filled the shelves normally with sports cards with like comics and Pokémon cards.

There isn’t a single pack of sports card at any Walmart or target in my area and hasn’t been since before Mosaic was released it’s been so weird.

Swish Kings, Kings of the Court and Franchise Foundations are beautiful cards and some of the best inserts from 2017-18 IMO. Platinum is super nice too but I've only seen a Brook Lopez in hand.

One of the local WM stopped carrying sports cards because of theft at the end of 2019. One of my wife's uncles is an evening stocker and he said store management made the choice. They still carry Pokemon/the like but that is it. Hopefully it's not something similar.

That would be awful! I mean it is crazy down here though. During the Optic release I went in when the rep happened to be stocking and talked to him for a bit.

He said three people had come up before me while he was working on the pokemon restock and demanded he open up the boxes so they could see if he had optic and he basically was like F off haha because they were being jerks. I walked up saw that Optic wasn't there said good morning to him and started to leave and because I wasn't a jerk he was like are you looking for optic and gave me some but when we were talking he was saying how crazy people have gotten and what not. I hope the jerks didn't ruin it for the rest of us collectors - especially since you can't touch hobby without spending $1k. I went to my LCS to see if he had Chronicles - they were $1200 a box and he wouldn't sell them by the pack because it was too easy to tell the patches/autos.

That would be awful but it wouldn't surprise me - I mean MJ Holdings is a publicly traded company and Wal-Mart has been known to not work the best deals for their clients because they have the distribution. With the crazy runup of specific cards - Blowout can probably offer MJ Holdings 50% more than WalMart was paying them or a better distribution of profits and still make a killing on them and WalMart just let it go because in the grand scheme of this WalMart isn't making enough on their sports card relative to the rest of their products.

That's what happened to my local Walmart too.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t Walmart just rent out the space to MJH? Historically, MJH needed that space to move product. Well now they don’t. And not only do they not need the space, they can sell direct, no hassle, for multiples of what they were getting previously.

Exactly it would have been the easiest negotiation ever if Blowout went to MJ Holdings and was like here is a deal we can make with you - you don't have to pay WalMart to try and sell your stuff for you - just fedex it to us and we will split profits etc.
