Is it time to start talking about Shai Gilgeous-Alexander?
 

I never paid much attention to him until about two weeks ago.

Other than one crappy game against the Bulls, he has played pretty well. The last 5 games alone he has averaged over 26 pts p/g

that's a lazy and incorrect take.

his minutes went up from 26.5 to 35.2 (32% increase)
his points went up from 10.8 to 19.4 (80% increase)

his efficiency hasn't really improved, but I think it's mostly because of the way he's being used. last year he was more of a defender and almost never touched the ball behind Tobias, Gallo, and Lou Williams. This year he's leading the team in attempts but from the games I've watched I don't like their offense at all. They play 3 PGs at a time and mostly just dance around Adams setting picks while the two guys without the ball just spot up. They should get rid of Schroeder, he leads the team in FGA most games from the bench and I think they'd be better off letting the young guys grow and have CP distribute and put them in positions to succeed

hobby wise his stuff has ticked up, but hard to see it really taking off unless they get rid of CP and Schroeder and just give SGA the ball, like a Siakam situation. I think he was definitely the one who flew under the radar of the last class, I ended up scooping up maybe 15 silvers this summer because they were going for the same amount as Lonnie Walker and Anfernee Simons, and way under MPJ...

SGA is definitely picking up value. His silver psa 10 were 130 in August, now it is in 220-250 range.

OKC is a playoff team this year if they can keep this up. SGA will get a chance to get more recognition then.

Edit: oh wait never mind, it is Dennis Schroder that is propelling this team. Also watch out, Liangelo Ball joined the OKC G-league affiliate, as a practice player.

Don’t think so. It’s still his rookie Prizm. Anthony Davis Prizm RC also lacks the logo and it still sells well. Even the 2011 guys like Kyrie, people understand it’s their Prizm RC

Btw I’m not trying to pump, I followed him and Jerome Robinson all last year because I grew up a Clippers fan and they were picked by Jerry West so I figured they had to be good. I legit enjoy watching him play though, super crafty game for a young guy and by all accounts is a good guy and hard worker. Sucks to be exiled in OKC though, hopefully they keep winning or find a way to unload CP’s monster contract

I’m just happy he’s committed to playing for the national team next summer. 2020 Tokyo here we come!!

Good question, I doubt it. Collectors will know this is his RC card. However, in the long-term I am not sure.

Currently I don’t see any pricing anomalies that indicate optic prices are higher compared to prizm.

I own 4 Shai cards that were all bought last week and I’m into for under $225. 3/4 I am sending to PSA to get graded so that’s a good 2-3 months wait. My username is my initial and last name, so clearly not hiding behind something secretive. You figured me out though pumping a guy I own less than $300 worth of cards for.

I’m pretty transparent on these boards. I couldn’t tell you SGAs, contract, Nov. stats or anything that isn’t recent.

I post in the Acuna, Soto and Trout threads every once and a while. I have thousands of dollars wrapped up in each player. It’s not a pump, it’s a discussion.

Do I think silver SGAs at $40 are cheap based on his recent numbers? Yes
Did a buy a few at $40 or lower based on my thought? Yes

My silvers I will grade, my orange optic will likely go on eBay OBO.

Would think if it was a pump I’d own more than $225 worth

SGA is an awesome player, I think they could lean on him a bit more, he's the future of OKC. I'm glad his prices aren't over the top, makes collecting him affordable. :)!

SGA is one of the best clutch players in the league, he's going to be very good and with OKC's history on developing big stars I expect big things.

I've been big on him all year but unfortunately the clippers jerseys are suuuuuper boring so it made collecting RPAs rough.

off topic but I really like the Mavs "fresh prince" themed jerseys, if only they had those last year and I could have dropped an entire paycheck on a RPA with a tri-color neon green. OKC at least has the bright orange I may have to splurge on a 2nd year patch auto of SGA with one of those patches

full disclosure: I have a ton of SGA, mostly base prizm I got for under $0.85 and Silvers I got for under $20 and an NT RPA.

With that said, the reason why I stocked up on him in the first place is his crazy potential on both ends of the floor. He has serious all-star potential and has a dynamic enough skill set that he could have some nice hobby appeal. Early on this season his prices spiked and have come down to earth a bit, but they're starting to pick back up.

Before anyone else posts in this thread, you MUST state how many Shai cards you own and acquisition cost of each. You will then by brought in front of the Panel of Pumpers before being allowed to continue in this discussion.

Alot of people dont use this board for sales/trades, they use ebay or comc or facebook. Lot of "transactions" don't get feedback either such as most group breaks. Thats a different section anyway so to act like transactions = credibility is ridiculous.

That said, I dont think this is pumping. Even if it is pumping who cares? Only people trying to build up their inventory so they can pump later. In this game you snooze you lose

I found an Optic Choice Red /88 of Shai in my "junk" box. I'm glad I looked through it before the show I did last month. I'm really glad he has been playing so well.

That’s why the 10s hold a much bigger premium. Normally you see 3x the raw or 9 price, his multiple is like 4-5x. I think by comparison Trae is relatively easy to gem so never seen those at much more than 2.5x

I love Shai’s game. He kind of reminds me of some blend of Kawhi and Manu. He’s a very good defender and facilitator but he has these sneaky moves that get him into the paint for a lot of great looks. I don’t know if it will translate to hobby success but I see him continuing to grow as a player a lot

Same, his drives are artistic. He is great at shifting and throwing defenders off balance. He has a knack for getting the shot off in traffic.

I see a bit of Luka in those drives, but hopefully his percentages improve over time.

Exactly! But to be honest they could have bought/accumulated his cards for months and months last year at 10-20% of these prices when people were literally giving him away. Plenty to like about him as a prospect with some research.

I was able to pick this up prior to this season. I was a fan of SGA, really happy to see a talented Canadian committing to team Canada for the Olympic qualifier. I hope he can lead team Canada to an Olympic spot for the Tokyo games.
