What kind of equipment do you need to trim cards?

Just curious. Appears there are quite a few that do it. Can’t be some high priced paper cutter, can it?

They’re hard to find, but all you need is a Hattori Hanzo sword.

marterburn 11-19-2019 08:00 PM

I use sandpaper.

Awww, come on guys, it's so simple maybe you need a refresher course.
It's all ball bearings nowadays. Now you prepare that Fetzer valve with some 3-in-1 oil and some gauze pads, and I'm gonna need 'bout ten quarts of anti-freeze, preferably Prestone.

I have actually wondered same and know answers are likely easily discovered via Google, but never cared to research for obvious reasons (honesty). I would assume some kind of laser cut would leave the cleanest edge..? What a state of affairs.

Judging by some of the cards I've seen in slabs.... A pair of scissors should do the trick. lol.

There is actually a device known as a Calculus bridge that many use. You can google it, hit images and see what it is.

Scissors. I cut this free hand with scissors at my desk at work. Coworker friend who collects couldnt pick out the trimmed card, nor which edge was trimmed once I told him which card.

PSA hasnt a chance fighting technology like this

Chuck isn’t considered trimming. The fact that he can look at the card and scare it into being perfect does not actually trim the card. The same amount of material remaining on the card, his gaze just realigns the atoms in the ink and paper into perfect harmony.

This is only for the bravest of clectors though as just being in the vicinity of Chuck could end up with your molecules rearranged.

Apparently lots of people use it when making homemade tarot cards.

Wiseguy917 11-19-2019 09:58 PM

Just get an industrial matte cutting machine like the one they use to prepare mattes for frames. Cleanest cuts I’ve ever seen at any size increment. It’ll be pricey but after a few subs to PSA you’ll be in the black for sure.

unclemonkey 11-19-2019 11:22 PM

Think it's more specialized.

High end mechanical engineering niche.

Kinda like comparing a miniature lathe for making tools, watch parts vs a typical wood lathe.

Soxfanguy 11-19-2019 11:34 PM

Superdan posted a example of one of them in a thread. It was on Amazon for 1200 bucks but then you need a specialist to make the blade cut even smaller, so probably 1500 bucks total is my guess

This or your standard paper cutter would do the trick depending on the thickness

Cubsfanp 11-20-2019 08:24 AM

I use a dewalt circular saw. Might seem like overkill, but its super powerful, and has a laser guide, so its fool proof and you can just eyeball it even when you hold the card with your hand.

sigmachi 11-20-2019 08:39 AM

I don't know about trimming but for the surface what you need to do is obtain a restricted use pesticide license and acquire 2.5 gallons of Bidrin and 2.5 gallons of Paraquat, mix them together and apply liberally to the desired area.

As a mechanical engineer, I was going to recommend tin snips or bolt cutters.

Nothing to add here. I’m just delighted by the immense Venn diagram blanket of Fletch fans in relation to the overall BO population. We’ve be clearly distilled our demographic to its pure essence. I can only imagine the response to a thread titled “how do I rid my country club of a pesky gopher?”
