March Madness NCAA Tournament Thread!

Admittedly early since conference finals are finishing up, but we'll see the seeds later today.

Teams that don't get in shouldn't have much of a complaint this year. The bubble stinks.

Funny PBP heard during the Houston/Cincy game: "Jarreau runs over Jennifer"

GoHawks25 03-17-2019 03:11 PM

One of my favorite times of the year. I don't follow the NBA at all, but I've always followed NCAA Basketball. I'm hopeful my UW Huskies can win a game or two. The Pac-12 was pretty awful this year though, I wouldn't be too surprised if they lost in the first round. Either way I'm excited to see how the pieces fall this year. Lots of good teams!

Siberian13 03-17-2019 03:15 PM

Such a fun time. I’ve been doing brackets since I was a kid. I remember collecting $5 from everyone in 5th grade for a nice payday for one kid. This is the first year none of my buddies are doing a bracket pool.

I'm going wherever the Gophers go so I'm very excited this year. I'm hoping that's Jacksonville or Columbia.

I used to love March Madness but when the Gophers are in it, I really only root for them, follow the games that will impact who they could play in later rounds, and root against Wisconsin. College basketball seems to be harder to watch every year.

Can’t wait to see if the ACC gets 3 number 1 seeds. Zags should have the 1 in the west and a decent chance Michigan state gets a 1 if they win the big ten tourney today but it’s very likely unc, duke and Virginia all get 1 seeds

Virginia should be #2 seed. They should never be a #1 seed again. They’ve shown they can’t handle the pressure of a #16 seed.

if MSU hangs on, this would be my top 8

1's
Duke
UVA
UNC
MSU

2's
Zaga
Kentucky
Tenn
Michigan

Davis 03-17-2019 05:05 PM

Wow! Did not expect the Committee to give MSU the bottom #2 seed in the Duke bracket. Wonder if that means Michigan is a 3.

Should still be a 2. Zags are a lock for the west 1 as the committee wouldn’t put a team from the ACC or big ten out west. Basically you had to think Michigan state was better than unc, duke or Virginia. Shows how good the committee thinks the ACC is this year

codered 03-17-2019 05:22 PM

3 number 1’s for the ACC

You should be happy badgers will be facing a very tough ducks team and I’d put money on the 12/5 upset!

Davis 03-17-2019 05:30 PM

So this last bracket looks like 1. Gonzaga, 2. Michigan, 3. FSU. Mich or FSU could be flipped...but how does the Committee give MSU the 2 in Duke's bracket and send them to Des Moine. Then Michigan the 2 in the Gonzaga bracket and plays in Columbus?

edit...forgot about Texas Tech

IndyKMB 03-17-2019 05:45 PM

Wow. Congrats to MSU for "Leapfrogging Kentucky" after today's Big Ten Tournament championship. Both are 2s....

Not my words, kids.

Once again the committee demonstrates that the outcome of the Big 10 Tourney doesn't mean a thing.
The winner was going to be a Co-Champion and Big 10 Tournament Champion, yet doesn't get a 1.
Ridiculous.

I truly believe the committee does the bracket before the tourneys begin and doesn't do the legwork to reseed if the favorites don't win.

And also, how is Wofford a 7? Charity.

Good job overall with those getting in/left out although there were not many surprises from the mid major tournaments.

FSU as a 4??? That’s a joke, we literally have 5 wins against teams seeded the same or higher than us. With that said the bracket we’re in doesn’t seem like the toughest.

I'm happy about that but I'm not happy that the Gophers got by far the worst 10 seed. I would have rather been an 11. I'd say Louisville is the 2nd best 7 seed and Duke, LSU, and Michigan State are all the best 1-3 seeds with Michigan State being especially tough.

Yeah, Wofford's a head scratcher. As impressive as their current win streak (20) is, look at how they fared OOC. Their only win over non small schools was South Carolina, who was not good this year. Then losses to UNC, Oklahoma, Kansas, Miss State.

That team is so up and down. Some bad losses (2x Depaul, another two I think OOC), beat Kentucky and Maryland early. Way up and down in conference, too. They were probably on the outside looking in before they beat Marquette and Nova back to back before the BE Tournament.

Saraste 03-17-2019 09:45 PM

Michigan/Michigan State should be switched. I see Wofford beating Seton Hall handily. I was not impressed with Seton Hall. The Big East is way down this year.

How did Florida make the tournament? They have been a hot mess all season. I guess the bubble was that weak. Normally I would not say this but given the weakness of the bubble, they should have let a couple of the smaller schools in this year as at-larges.

mnvikingstwins 03-17-2019 09:57 PM

Wasn’t that the year several years ago when they improbably won the SEC Tournament therefore getting the automatic bid and ended up like a 13 seed...or was it Mississippi State? Either way bias aside I think Florida gets handled by Nevada.

That's what you call spreading your bets lol. Looks like you'll need to hit one of the better paying ones to break even.

I'm on UVA at 8-1 for $50, Houston at 50-1 for $20. Also kinda like Carolina at 6-1, but no bet placed.

CC_123 03-20-2019 01:03 PM

A couple of the upsets I have in my bracket

#10 Florida over #7 Nevada
#10 Minnesota over #7 Louisville (this is just a straight homer pick honestly)
#11 Belmont over #6 Maryland and #3 LSU
#12 Oregon over #5 Wisconsin and #4 Kansas State
#12 Murray State over #5 Marquette
#13 Northeastern over #4 Kansas (love Northeastern's shooting ability. Almost 40% from deep as a team)
#14 Old Dominion over #3 Purdue (this one I am 99% sure I will get wrong, but my gut is telling my ODU)

In my pool, I have 20 people and I am guessing 10-13 will pick Duke to win it all, so I will likely pick UNC to win it all. I don't have my Final Four completely decided yet (Still trying to pick between MSU/Duke in the Elite 8 and Gonzaga/FSU in the Sweet 16). Only two Final Four teams I have decided are Tennessee and UNC.

Sadly I only consider your pick of Oregon over Wisconsin an upset because Wisconsin is a higher seed. Oregon is the better team at this point. Probably the same with Marquette, though I think Marquette can actually win one game, I don't feel the same for the badgers.

So true. I like Az St for the simple reason that the Johnnies really don’t play nearly as good as defense as ASU, I think Hurley will atone for last year’s play in game in a familiar setting.
ASU was playing well down stretch...while St Johns has been mediocre since their hot start

Arizona State has been disappointing to me. They got off to that great start in OOC last year, and have been mediocre since. St. John's.. man, who knows. They have the ability to get hot from 3. Ponds is damn good. I don't know how they do it, but it seems like St. John's only has 5 or 6 players every year since Mullin's been there.

seabass97166 03-20-2019 06:23 PM

Agree about Ponds, but St Johns 1-4 last 5, Az St. 6-2 last 8 only 2 losses to a red hot Oregon squad that I think will bounce Wisconsin.

Big East and PAC 12 are pretty bad though.
