Man pretends Babe Ruth is real - gets "paper analyzed" & claims it is authenticated

Unless someone cracked the already slabbed one, this is a reprint. |
The guy’s crying about a fake baseball card lol
|
Crummy part is it sounds like this guy has now attached so much faith and emotion into a 2 dollar reprint that it's going to ruin his life. Crying and what not, c'mon man!
|
"I told him my family's welfare depends on it. Bidding starts at two million dollars," he said.
lol |
From the same location as Jason Mars Sparks, Nevada.
|
"must be authenticated by Beckett"
Lol |
From the same location as Jason Mars Sparks, Nevada.
It has to be someone connected to him. Or there is something terribly wrong in Sparks! |
It’s not authentic until the antique paper authenticator in Sparks says it’s real wasn’t that how we got confirmation on the T206 Wagner that Mars bought
|
2 Million? The most expensive card EVER (PSA 9 52 Mantle) sold for 2.8 million so he isn't getting that
|
Fortunately they look similar too...maybe I'll need to create one for this kook as well.

Ball called the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York and told him what he bought. "She told me I want to see that card as fast as you can get it to me. Same thing with every organization that's had the picture sent to them on this card. They've blown it up and looked for certain things on this card, certain marks." |

LOL... how is this even a story if you haven't even tried to authenticate it yet? I took it to my buddy and he says it could be real so I won't sell it for less then 2 million dollars. Rent the card to the HOF? hahahahaha gtfoh
"They need to look at it and basically authenticate it. And that's the only way it's gonna be proven that card is real. It's so rare and no one knows anything about it." Ball may rent the Babe Ruth card to the Hall of Fame but then again. "The only way I would sell this card is for the bidding to start at $2 million because to me I found the Mona Lisa." |
Yall are just a bunch of windowlickers, that thing is legit!
|
Let's just be happy that this guy created this silly story instead of claiming his son was trapped in a garbage can for 2 weeks while being fed by a kind racoon family.
We no longer have time to vet crazy...we just run with it. |

Sparks Nevada is where the dolt Mars was from. And he got the stupid mews to report his story also. Hmmm

Authenticated but he has a 2.5 million dollar card in a top load that they then put inside a screw down. Okay.... |
Jason Mars was “authenticated” also. First some eBay rep then some sketchy pawn shop owner. Both where lies...
|
I just can't believe reputable media was duped that this was actually a story. This is literally fake news.

another Jason Mars?
Edited. Watching the clip he looks like he did just enough research to see dollar signs. Always dangerous.

Took the guys on net54 about 3 minutes to see it was a fake. A member there owns or owned the only authenticated ruth from that set. There is a tear on it on the right hand side. This card, they printed the tear into the card.

Cliff notes: the card is authenticated because fibers in the paper and ink are consistent with cards of that time period according to Fresno State professor John Pryor. An auction house has stated bidding would start at 1.5 million and could bring in as much as 4.5 million, but Ball doesn’t want to sell because the card deserves to be on a wall in Yankee stadium next to Ruth’s statue. |
The $2 Babe Ruth card turns out to be real
I remember someone posting the original story but I could not find it when I searched for it. Turns out to be real. Wow.
Feel free to merge, etc if this has already been posted. |
ill believe it when I see it in a slab

that's what I am wondering. he sent it off to a lab to check ink and fabric...why didn't he just send to psa

Exactly. Since when does a card collector need to take it to a lab for testing? I'm calling BS until I see a PSA/BGS holder. |
Exactly. Since when does a card collector need to take it to a lab for testing? I'm calling BS until I see a PSA/BGS holder.
You'll never see it in a PSA, SGC or BGS slab because it isn't real. The owner of the card knows this...the mental halfwits furthering his charade may or may not know. Having a forensic anthropologist only adds to the lunacy, and lends as much credence to the story as a single-toothed gas station attendant with an amazing Beanie Baby collection. So again, in big, bold letters...THE CARD IS NOT REAL! |
Holeheartedly agree... the entire story is asinine.

Come on all. When he nearly breaks down in tears because of his AMAZING find, isn't that proof enough that he is telling the truth? SMH.

No, don't make this a "media" thing. This is about critical thinking. You're in this hobby. You know enough to not give credence to a story simply because an article quotes a random college professor stating that the paper and ink appear to be from the right era. Nothing about this professor would give anyone the impression that his opinion would matter regarding the authenticity or the dating of this card. |
ill believe it when I see it in a slab
Same here, if all they did was check the paper that can be just as easily faked as the card itself. All they would need is similar stock to what was used in the real card. |
The findings don’t mean anything. So I can take a piece of ancient papyrus paper from Egypt and draw the Blues Brothers on it, does that make it from King Tut himself?
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Again...look at the source.
A forensic anthropologist is great if you're Horatio Caine and you found some bones in a swamp...but we're not dealing with the corpse of Babe Ruth, we're dealing with a baseball card. Nothing about this specific anthropologist implies that he'd be a source of credible opinion regarding this card, and nothing about forensic anthropology implies that there's even a reason to ask any anthropologist about the authenticity of this card. Asking this professor's opinion on the age of the card makes as much sense as asking my 5 year old about supramolecular polymers. This is another silly hoax perpetrated by someone who knows exactly what they have and what they don't have. |

DAMMIT!
Every time I start to come out of the closet as a card collector and feel okay about letting my friends and coworkers know, some clown like this comes along and makes us all look like dopes. Next time I tell me friends that i really actually did flip some $100 Lebron card for $1,000, I'm sure they'll think "ya ya, just like that idiot and his $4.5 million dollar Babe Ruth card". |
I'm surprised that nobody mentioned that Mars and the other guy look related. Cousins maybe?
