Hello gang…Felt compelled to start a Jason Tatum thread…I’m very very high on Tatum but because of how the team is shaped, figured it would take a few years before we see him take over a team…But man, is it possible he can be the man on his team already..? Only 1 game, so way too early, but still encouraging from what I saw last night...

This is the best one I have. Only a few other base RCs....

This is my son's collection. Most were pack pulled. I send them in for grading because they wouldn't last otherwise. Haha.

5 more Tatum's are at PSA now including a Black Velocity /39.

He is not the #1 option on that team but he may force his way there or be the close #2. It is still Kyrie's team but man this kid looks smooth. Working with Kobe never hurts either.

More of a speculator, but I have these. Spent $185 total on both so I'm looking good. After what I saw last night I think I'll just hold em.

He is a second year player. The Celtics are positioned to make runs in the playoffs for the foreseeable future with their current team (and the possibility of 4 first round picks in the 2019 draft is scary.)

As such, Tatum doesn't need to be the #1 option on a stacked team. I think he will get there in the next few years though.

I agree with you. No need for him to be that. They are like the Warriors East.

I think if he keeps getting better, Kyrie will not like it and want to leave again. Hope they all get along and do some good things. Tatum looks like he hasn't missed a beat since last year.

Beautiful card! I saw it in the Buy/Sell and showed my son. He asked if I could buy it for him. Every 7 year old needs a $3k card in their collection right?

He's so freaking mature on the court for his age...He was slumping all pre-season and 1st game he plays that counts, boom...I love that about him!! I haven't seen this type of player since Grant Hill?? but Tatum already has an elite shot!! Hill came in to the league at 22 yrs old and Tatum is still only 20... I honestly haven't been this excited about a player since Durant...If he stays healthy, no question he is the real deal and great things are coming for years to come!! To think Lakers and Philly took Fultz and Lonzo, wow!!

That NT RPA is nice. The way the auto goes through the serial numbers, it looks like a jersey number.

Actually i read a long article today about how Kyrie doesn't wan't to be "the guy" his teammates said he's a completely different person then the media portrays. Kyrie himself said he doesn't care about stats as long as he's winning and they're playing good basketball. He said he felt a tremendous amount of pressure last year leaving CLE and thinking he had to "be the guy" but loves playing for the Celtics and their "team first" mentality and would love to stay here next year if the fans will have him. Brad Stevens is one the best coaches in basketball and emphasizes team ball and all the guys on the team love it.

As far as Tatum goes and his role going forward he'll be the #1 or 2 scorer on the team. He's just too good. When he trained with Kobe this summer the one thing Kobe tried to instill in him was be more aggressive instead of passive. We saw a little bit of that last night. He has a really bright future.

Got a quad 9.5 Silver Prizm last year Looks like his prices spiked back up from what they debuted at. Was surprised to see his raw Silvers getting $300 again

I think he will become the #1 option. He is a more efficient scorer than Kyrie

I feel this guy will be the next big thing after lebron and KD.

Tempted to get his rookie NT RPA, but I could get a nice jordan auto with that kind of money hmmmm.

I know what you mean...I don't really like investing in RC's or 2nd year guys that go for high dollar, etc. I also would rather buy a Jordan, etc. But it won't be Jordan's best card, or even close..It's rare, but I sometimes roll the dice and pull the trigger in a high dollar young prospect...Plus, though risky, it's much more fun, following the players progress, the potential for card to explode one year...

In this case, even though I still think his NT RPA are obviously high for what he's has accomplished, I pulled the trigger during the summer...Him playing for Boston, BStevens, and Ainge did influence my decision...I will except any outcome, but I feel it's going to be a fun ride regardless..

2017 wax is the way!

The kid can do it all, highlight dunks, shoot the lights out from 3, plays good defense. He's so mature and still the youngest player on the Celtics. I wish i had more of his cards. I'd really love to own an NT RPA but i don't feel like spending $10K on one card but iim sure i'll look back in several years and say that was a bargain. Oh well can't have em all. I only have the basics a couple Prizm silvers a few other Prizm colors, Optic Holo and an Optic auto. I wish i had more. I think the other main thing that will keep his cards sought after is he plays for a historic franchise with a rabid fanbase and a team that's really good and looks like they'll be in the spotlight for years to come.

Saw him play in high school and had to grab something after I saw how good he looked in college. Picked this up when Prizm came out last year

Also grabbed a few base prizm rc's. Any opinion on the next "best" rc behind prizm? I really didn't like the look of the prizm cards but know they've kind of been the go to the last few years. I don't collect basketball at all so I'm not sure if products like Select or Optic have much of a following.

Yes, it's fun when everything goes right, but it's very risky, what if he gets injured? Penny Hardaway and Grant Hill come to mind.

But anyway I am with you tho, I think he is a "good" risk, I am so tempted to get his RPA, but wish the price is cheaper.

Always been much more of a football prospector, but this dude caught my eye early on. Absolute stud and the best player on the Celtics who I love watching play. This is just a sample of a few I've got put back, but some decent ones here. Cant wait to add a few more in the next couple months :flex:

Since I only collect non-auto/patch cards, I am able to stay away from overpriced cards. This is my favorite RC design from Tatum's rookie year.

Man, I know it's early but I did not expect this from Tatum already...I felt he was the real deal, but would take a few years because of how the team is constructed and his age..But didn't expect this...I've watched all 3 games and it's just seems very difficult to score let's say 30 on this team, especially when Morris, Smart and Rozier come in chucking...I saw Smart take (brick) some horrible shots while 48% from the field Tatum was wide open, lol...

Anyways, only 3 games..But future is looking good...

I want to increase my Tatum collection but im really undecided on what to buy. I plan on holding for a long time because im a Celtics fan and he's my favorite player but some day 10-15 years down the road i will likely sell them. I want mostly stuff that will be really desirable and hold good value. This is what i have right now, Prizm silvers x2, green pulsar Prizm, Red pulsar Prizm, ruby Prizm, green Prizm, lots of prizm base, Optic auto, green /5 rated rookies. I could buy an NT RPA but that would pretty much wipe out my entire budget and be the only acquisition. Or i could go for more Prizm stuff or Optic but that's where im stuck and undecided. For a long term investment perspective do you guys have any ideas? I really like the Optic Contenders as well i've been eyeing a gold /10 but that's about the same price as an NT auto. What do you think what would you do?

I love the Black Velocity. They are a bit absurdly priced now but then again are any of his cards reasonably priced? I picked my copy up for $120 about a month after Optic was released.

I had the chance to buy a black velocity Ntilikina back in March but balked at the price and I haven't so much as seen another one since. That was an all time great purchase by you, well done!

It was a BIN or Best Offer on eBay from a seller in Australia. It was listed at about 6:00am EST when I woke up that morning. I forget the asking price but I offered $120 and the seller accepted.

Was going to post my first Tatum prizm silver PSA 10 P/U I won from probstein but unfortunately i was kinda irritated when i opened the envelope and the case was scratched up

Many collectors have a very high expectation for Tatum. About two years ago, when I first began collecting cards, people were also very high on Andrew Wiggins. Some people compare Wiggin’s game to Kobe’s. See how that turns out. My philosophy in buying high value cards is unless he is a generational player, I’m not buying the player’s RPA. It is shocking to me how much money people are spending on Tatum’s RPA. In my opinion, Tatum is not a generational player. The hobby will eventually abandon him.

so basically in the last 20 years you could only buy kobe, bron, duncan, steph and durant. that is way too narrow for me. plenty of rpas to buy, plenty of room to grow and to say tatum can't be that guy at 20 years old is foolish.
