Bad news for his card prices. Tatis/Soto on the same team is going to split the money.
Nah, I don't think Soto collectors will be like "ugh, now he's on the same team as Tatis...guess I'll stop buying Soto." |
Number of Soto buyers has gone up today.

Still won’t win the division. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Why would those buyers care though that they're on the same team?
It's the saturation affect. Soto's going to be great, but he stands out less when there's a guy about his level right next to him. Especially so in cards when that guy next to him is the most sought after under 25 in the hobby when he's healthy
Both of their production is likely to increase with more protection in their order and much less pitching around.
Protection in the order is a myth, it's been proven more than once that the quality of player hitting behind someone has almost no affect on offensive production(google it if you want). The reason for this is if a player is actually "pitched around", they draw more walks. If a player walked every AB they would've been worth almost 2 Babe Ruth's in production over the same career length |

I'll probably go on a shopping spree tonight. I'm jacked! |

And when Tatis gets healthy it's going to eat right into the Soto market |
1st Soto Shuffle Padres uniform card is going to be ICONIC

Where is the Trout money moving? |

I don't need any studies/analytics to tell me that pitchers are gonna approach Soto differently when Tatis or Machado is on deck compared to 42 year old Nelson Cruz |
Picked this up at National on Friday! Soto in that lineup is going to be insane!

2020 PRIZM THE DUNK I can't wait |
I am shocked the Dodgers let this happen.
Soto finally getting back some lineup protection. If Tatis is healthy, holy #@#@#@#@. |

But they can tell you that when it's been measured in the past over big sample sizes, offensive production stays about the same. The increase in walks offsets the less "good" pitches a batter sees. It's not really a debate, been proven going back decades :) |

They wont. And doubt tatis will be behind soto. Ideally you have tatis bothering a pitcher while being on base. Pitching wise its the Same playbook. High inside fastballs and low away soft stuff. And if they walk him oh well. Take chance with whomever is next. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
I can't see what BBases is saying, but I'd imagine it's something like this:

Whatever study you're referring to, something tells me the guy whose been pitched around/walked at a historic rate might be the exception to it |
There used to be a Johnny Podres.
Juanny Padres? |
Well guess I’ll be switching to blue parallels soon! I am so excited there is now way you can pitch around a line with Soto/machado/bell/tatis as the heart of the order. These next couple months will be an appetizer to what will be an amazing run for Soto fans and baseball fans as a whole. The dodgers padres games are going to be bonkers.

Whats this hosmer stuff. Possibly blocking the trade?

Obviously you can, otherwise you wouldn't bother saying this :) |
Wow, Padres made out well. The kicker no one is talking about is Bell is pretty damn good too.
|
So for the people who don't believe in lineup protection - Soto has a .246 AVG with the Nationals this year, consistently hovering in that sub .250 range all year. By the end of the year, would you expect his Padres average to be about that same number?
