No, it's not. In fact, I'd say it's more likely there. They're playing with different money than most of us... $20-50K, between collectors, for something they WANT, to them... that's like $100 to us mere mortals.
OMG. This is just ignorant. Just because someone has money, that doesn’t mean that they don’t understand and appreciate the VALUE of money. In most cases, that’s exactly why they have money to begin with - because they VALUE it properly. Your other argument is also inherently flawed. Look at any BC rainbow with enough of a sales history to see average values from color to color: Supers do not sell for 5x reds. Reds do not sell for 5x orange. Orange does not sell for 2x gold. Gold does not sell for 3x blue. Blue does not sell for 3 1/3 base Refractor autos. In each and every case, the average sales are LESS THAN THE MULTIPLIER. |

I still respect your collection and your Trout opinions and contributions. However, you're going to compare Trout to other BC rainbows... yeah, Trout vs. Johnny Jockstrap prospect.. potato, potatoe right?!?!?! Come on, it's 2019... Trout ain't on the level of any other rainbow you want to draw comps against. And money... so, 52 Mantle PSA 8's... yeah, going for $300-360K... six months later... $430K. Yeah, I mean, those smart guys with their money... must have been his performance! If you got the means, and you want it... you'll pay. Some might say pushing a downward narrative is a form price suppression. Listened to and heard enough, some could view that as manipulation. All I'm saying... and I'll never be able to afford either... if were talking Trout, and were talking twice as hard to find... twice the price is my starting point! |
So you believe the $186k sale to be legit?
I agree. You don't see Bill Gates or Jeff Bezos setting money on fire. Could they do it? Yes. But why would they?
Really? You know how many M&A projects they penned their names to over the years that lost money and/or failed for their companies??? You think Bezos stepping out on his marriage and upcoming divorce ain't like burning a pile of millions/billions? Don't give rich people too much credit just because they're rich... they human just like you and me! |
So you believe the $186k sale to be legit?
No, not at all |
Except the current multipliers across the board do suggest that oranges sell for slightly less than double golds.
My bad, you're right. Mike Trout is the same across the board as every other player in MLB, or prospecting for MLB. I apologize, I was getting a little carried away. |
No, not at all
So what is fair value in your opinion? The min 9.5 gold got $59k in October. A 9/9.5/10/9.5 blue got $25k in October. The gold is 3x as rare, but didn’t even get 2.5x the sale. How do you explain that when considering the golds never appear? |

Except the data shows that Trout does not get the same multiplier that other players do. Large of law numbers. https://www.blowoutforums.com/showthread.php?t=1270033 |

I can't follow, nor trust what is real and what isn't. I think the current numbers you see on most of it, are way too high... probably, because a lot of it is, or has been, manipulated. At the end of the day, these cards I'll never be able to afford to own... they are what someone (hopefully legitimately) is willing to pay for them! |
So $120k is too low because it’s only 2x the gold, and $186k is too high. But you don’t have an actual opinion on a fair value, but we’re definitely wrong. Ok.

Again, Trout is an exception, not exactly part of the rule. a) Seriously, what's the difference between gold wave and gold... both numbered to 50. (That's rhetorical, no need to answer). Gold Wave is new, didn't exist in 2011. That said, let's say you average those... just, because MATH... now Oranges are a bit more than 2X b) I was called ignorant, because supers don't sell for even 5 times red. Yet, this data shows they actually sell for 6.04 times more... ummm At the end of the day, it's Trout vs. the world... If I'm holding Trout, and it's twice as hard to get... twice the price is my starting point, not my finish line... but that's just me |

What? a) I never said $120 was too low b) I never said $186 was too high c) I never said you were wrong All I ever said was that I couldn't believe that jj would state that (roughly) $118K or less should be the max on the Orange, because a gold sold for $59K. To me, $118K would be my starting point... not my end goal! If there was any confusion in that being what I was getting at... my apologies, seriously! |

Gold sold for approximately $60K last year, so that doesn't not mean the 2009 BC superfractor 1/1 is worth 50 times i.e, 3 million. It was sold for 400K. Vegas Dave might use this logic one day though to sell his Superfractor:D |
