Terrible strategy unload now. Just look at the Update that thing will be below $500 in a 10 sooner rather than later book it.
Lol. A lot of collectors will be dead or in nursing homes in 18 years. The rush of 2020 flippers will be onto virtual vaping credits or holographic porn by then.
sheesh thanks Debbie Downer...:(
I fully agree Miggy is better, but he also didn’t really continue much to that Marlins WS team.
Did you watch any of the Playoffs? Miggy vs SF had the 2nd best WPA for the Marlins .35, the next series vs Cubs in 7 games scored 9 runs 10 hits 3 HR’s with 6 RBI’s. In the World Series he hit a 2 out HR after Clemens brushed him back when the Yank's were leading the series 2-1, Marlins won 4-3 then the series.

Without Cabrera the Marlins are not even in the World Series.

The correct answer is - the inverse proportion of 2022 topps chrome baseball boxes.

Mike Trout (back) will begin rotational work on Wednesday and could swing a bat a few days after that.

Trout is optimistic that he can return in relatively short order if all goes well this week. It's encouraging news for the 30-year-old star outfielder. Still, a return in mid-August seems like a best-case scenario.

Latest sale was $1600 on July 29. Before that they were in the $1850-1950 range. March and April seemed to be in the $2500-$3000 range.

As a lot of people alluded to: The fear now is that he ends his career with a very incomplete resume. He'll still be a first ballot HOFer, and one of the greats of this era, but top 10 or 15 guys don't have resume's that are incomplete in many areas.

Well said. As a collector who has Trout as the main Dog pulling his Dog Sled, I’m now in uncomfortable and uncertain territory. I expected Career ups and downs, but what’s happening now kinda’ blindsided me

Hard not to like Mike Trout. He has been fantastic for baseball. If he retired today:

Hits = 1,495 (657th)
RBI = 867 (431st)
HR = 334 (111th)
BA = .3028 (131st)
SB = 204 (348th)
World Series Wins = 0
World Series Appearances = 0

There are certainly many other statistics that make him shine bright but the above are what many an old school collector view as important. He needs to perform well for another decade and at least play in the WS.

Lol how many old school collectors are still around? I did a poll on here a couple years ago and the vast majority of collectors were Gen X and millenials, two generations not known for holding onto antiquated ideas. Gen X is currently up to 57 years old. Keep in mind we grew up in households with Atari 2600’s and C64’s and Apple IIc’s and yet somehow figure out how to use each new piece of technology without much trouble. Adaptability is a Gen X and even moreso millennial trademark.

If Trouts career ended today, I think he gets the Sandy Koufax treatment…extremely high peak cut short by injury. He won’t be Mantle or Griffey status, but he will be close enough.

Univibes 08-01-2022 09:24 AM

Close enough…. maybe that can be the new Gen Z catch phrase.

True about the Gen X. Birthed in the flames of Bill James. Old school stats are simply part of the story.

If his career ended today it would be the greatest "short career" in baseball history. I think people seem to be reading "rare" and are equating that to career ending injury. That's not what this is.

As already stated in this thread, first ballot hall of famer.

But his long term prices won’t hold at GOAT levels. But will still be substantial.

I think the thing a lot of people are forgetting is that Koufax performed at a superhuman level his last five years. Three Cy Youngs. The last two years he pitched in extreme pain. In 1966 he pitched on two days rest to clinch the pennant. He went 27-9 with a 1.73 ERA his last year.

And then he led the Dodgers to the WS multiple times including the iconic 1965 World Series where he was Series MVP. He was also WS MVP in 1963 when the Dodgers swept the Yanks.

Saying that Trout somehow is going to be in the same league as Koufax is misplaced. Legends are made in big games. Koufax more than earned his. No one had to look at fancy statistics - they saw it with their own two eyes.

Right… which is why it’s hard to compare eras. Players won’t play through injuries and/or extreme pain nowadays…. And that’s actually a good thing!

So right, if things go really bad with his back…. Trout won’t play through a nagging injury and subject himself to pain the rest of his life. What’s the point of having millions to spend in old age if you are waking up with back pain everyday? Players are smarter now. See also football and modern concussion protocols.

If his career ends up getting cut short and he doesn't hit any career milestones...it would be a big disappoint for his card "investors". His prices will reflect that. There seems to be a small group of people that think he will go against every single thing we know about aging stars, the twilight injury portion of their careers and what their card prices ultimately do. Not to mention...ZERO playoff moments, no rings, zero media presence, no career milestones, a terrible team his entire career...and he will completely disappear once he retires. At least he has WAR.
