Ha ha... you guys worried about people putting numbers lower than previous bidders can stop pointing it out. It all gets sorted out.

And there will be DOZENS of bids lower than previous bids when things actually get moving Friday night. Happens every time and impossible to avoid it.

If your bid is the highest at the end of this, you'll get the spot. Even if someone says something lower after you. That's the beauty of the internet. It's there. You can find it. It doesn't have an (immediate) self-destruct.

Take a deep breath. Put what you think you want to pay. Or just wait. 90% of the bidding usually happens in the last 45 seconds. Most everything on these first 6 pages means nothing.

2 ways I've seen someone get what they want in this:

1. GINORMOUS bid right now. Just put it out of reach and hope no one goes over.
2. Feeding frenzy bid later - maybe ginormous, maybe not - but regardless, the winning bid doesn't happen on a popular spot until 30 seconds before the clock ends. Hope it was enough. It's impossible to track and go over the last bid by a minimum amount and get it unless you are EXTREMELY lucky or you are working in a team of readers/refreshers and then bidders in the same room with a lot of yelling.

All we are doing now is buying time while we sit in our basement or on our phones at work - maybe playing our hands for who we like and where they relatively sit in terms of popularity.

The last auction to give you an id

https://www.blowoutforums.com/showthread.php?t=1334891&highlight=Auction&page=19

461 posts before 2 minutes to first deadline (8:58 when auction ended at 9:00), 1 post PER SECOND after that until the deadline (or just after). I didn't want to do the calculation - but it probably was even more weighted to the last 30 seconds. And that was actually a slow last 2 minutes comparatively.

trmpetyjo 05-13-2020 04:08 PM
Meh, none of these bids will matter come Friday anyways and the tracker will be updated by then.
This is exactly right.

Unless you're unable to bid within the last hour or so before the auction ends all your doing by bidding now if giving your competition time to mull it over and outbid you. And even then there's always the guys with deep pockets that like to gamble and will pay 3 times what you thought the spot was worth.

Not that that's a bad thing. It actually adds value to the more reasonably priced spots. In the past (at least) extra cases have been added to the break at no cost because some of those deep pockets shelled out some big money for the prime spots.

I think a fun contest would be a guessing game on where the bidding will end up for some of the more sought after spots.

Currently the Dominguez spot is at 1200 bucks. That's about $40 per card if you averaged it out. Quite the gamble but could end up being well worth it if some nice color shows up. I have a feeling 1200 is not gonna do it though. Things could get crazy real fast with all the hype

Don't edit posts and expect it to count guys. Imagine if you had increased your bid instead of decreased...

Just make a new post.

Not a gamble at all. Dominguez chrome will be at least $100/card at release, likely more. His slot will go for $4,000 at least but if I had to guess on an exact # I'd say 6,324.

Not sure where it will settle, my guess is between 25 and 40, but any parallel will be big money, and could make the spot well worth it

I'd say they settle around 50-70. Two other points that will probably make the ending price even higher than the figure I put...

FOMO of the past year plus. People are throwing money at everything.

The other and more important thing is the option to buy that slot in every Houdini break going forward (which I'm guessing he'll offer).

True, but the buyer will not receive these cards anytime close to release date. The initial high prices will have come down a good amount by the time they have these in hand to sell themselves.

This will be interesting with all the new followers of Houdini. Have fun and no matter your expectations are, the final couple minutes will blow them away.
