Don’t collect a ton of Kobe, but his 2008 Topps Chrome Refractor is one of my favorite basketball cards of all time. The layout, the fonts, and the colors just pop so beautifully. Most of all, though, the photo is just UNREAL. Kobe and LeBron locked in, as if we’re witnessing the precise moment LeBron goes to grab the torch from Kobe to become the new face of the league, and we can see Kobe saying, “NOT YET.” It’s an incredible, timeless card, one that takes on a totally new frequency of meaning this morning. Very new to the forum, but still happy to stumble upon this thread.

I am a long-time Lakers fan but never had very many Kobe cards (due to how expensive they were) when I was younger. Late last year, my 9-year old son got interested in basketball cards and re-ignited my love for the hobby. Now, we collect together. I was fortunate to get ONE on-card auto in early January 2020.

I found out about his passing as I was checking eBay. All of the items I was watching were sold, and new items were listed at crazy high prices. At first, I thought the final HOF list had been announced. I checked google and found out that the worst had happened.

Thanks for sharing all of your awesome cards, they are certainly a pleasure to see. Kobe was such a talent that there are very few "bad shots" of him.

Feel free to PM me to discuss Kobe cards, as I certainly have a lot of passion around them (if not the amazing collection some here have).

About 2 months before Kobe passed away, I gave my raw 1996 Topps Chrome Kobe Bryant RC to my brother in law, who has been a HUGE Kobe fan since I’ve known him. He was so happy to have the card, he immediately posted it on all his social media websites. I really like my brother-in-law, so seeing him happy was totally worth giving up the card.

I can’t remember exactly how much I bought that card, but I bought it at a local card show back in 2007ish.

Unfortunately, after Kobe passed away, I started missing my Kobe card. I knew I had to have one back in my collection, so I sold one of my 2018 Luka Doncic Auto cards at a LCS. I took the cash and bought a 1996 Topps Chrome Kobe Bryant RC. This time, I wanted one better centered and not as green.. I also wanted it graded/slabbed. Today, it finally arrived and I’m so happy to have this card back in my collection:

It's gorgeous in person. 12x36. I normally would prefer the jersey framed, but I just love the timeline of his progression in this one.
