is this soto's sophomore season? i did not know that.
Yup. These stats count toward his 2019 season. Google it. Arthur |
Hey Guys,
The cable went out up here on the hill. How did Soto do today? |

Looks like him and Martinez are saying shoulder is playing no role in hitting. Just some adjustments to be made. Like hitting ball more out in front according to Martinez. Glad to read it's not from an injury. He will get back.
Hey Guys,
The cable went out up here on the hill. How did Soto do today?
Had a 5 ball at bat, turned into a 3-2 count batting coach got tossed yelling at ump. Struck out on next pitch no having a clue where the strikezone was anymore. Hit a 109mph ground ball. tough game think there was 20+ strikeouts. He will be back in the lineup tomorrow ready to go. I was only half kidding a couple weeks ago about him leading off...

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I like that and when we say "Buy!" when a player is hot. Ohtani is coming to mind now. Some are rushing to buy while others are taking the opportunity to sell. At the Delaware show yesterday, some dealers made sure their Ohtani cards were front and center. Anyhow, the best time to sell is when nobody is playing. The hype and dreams of a Ted Williams type season is greatest then. I would just wait now. It's too late if you are looking for February prices. |

It's amusing to me people are panicking about Soto so much. Yeah the power numbers haven't been there, and I realize that matters in the card world a lot. But it's not like he's had a terrible season in any way. Hitting .267, OBP of .387, yes the slugging is low. And of course expectations were much higher as one of the best hitters in the league. But it's coming
I mean, look at his Statcast profile- Hard to get much better metrics than that! I'll also point to an xBA of .307 (top 4% of the league), xSLG of .515 (top 16% of the league), and a .403 xwOBA (top 5% of the league), all saying that we'd expect his numbers should be a lot higher than they actually are- Really the only thing that DOESN'T look in line with his 2019 is his launch angle which is way down to 2.9%. See the difference? Sure enough, we can confirm that his ground ball rate is way up from 2019 (42.8% ->56.5%), and his fly ball rate is way down (26.9% -> 16.5%). He's just not getting the ball in the air as much as he should with how hard and how often he hits it. As soon as he starts getting under the ball just a little bit more, he's right back to the elite hitter that he is. Hell, I mean his GB/FB/LD rates this year are even pretty well in line with his rates from last year, and he hit 14 doubles and 13 home runs in 47 games, so it's not like that LA/hit type is a death sentence either. It just makes it more difficult TLDR I really think Soto's gonna be just fine and it's only a matter of time |
I sent him down on my MLB the show, brought him back up to the bigs and now he’s raking....
Disclaimer: I don’t have PlayStation or MLB the show and would never send him down to the Penal leagues. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Man people shouldn't panic. Heck some studs had slumps, and he's had 3 great, productive years prior to this one. I'm still holding.

This market is looking for reasons to sell. Underperformance/injury = get me out ASAP.

People that sell now will join those folks who sold their Trouts way too early.

I remember I bought his '18 Transcendent Auto, I think, in the 2018/2019 offseason and leading into 2019 it was just ALL Acuna hype. This thread was limping along in the snow leaving a blood trail like Liam Neeson at the end of The Grey.
But I loved Soto's K:BB and OBP. I thought those things showed a maturity and understanding of the strike zone that would lead to incredible things in his future. Long story short, I'm glad I bought the Transcendent auto (it gemmed) and recently purchased what I think is something that comes about as close to a white whale item as I could have. Obviously, it's a Soto piece, and obviously, here we are in the Soto thread, adjusting our two-piece and scratching our head. Before I was a little cynical. Now, after what I've seen, I'm just waiting to enjoy that two-to-three week run when he goes to ludicrous speed and is leading 11 statistical categories by the end of it. It's gonna happen, and it's gonna be FUN. Arthur |

It seems to me that Soto has gotten the Harper treatment now. Teams have learned you just don’t have to ever pitch to him and the rest of the Nationals team never makes you pay.

There will be plenty of opportunity to buy back into Soto cheaper between now and February. Even if Soto hits the rest of the season up to his Statcast numbers which were posted above, he's still going to finish with a disappointing season. All the money is going to keep flowing towards Tatis, Acuna, Guerrero, and Ohtani. I don't blame anyone for selling now |
if i'm the owner of the Nats i'm firing martinez right now.
you don't come out and throw bond's name when describing your 22 year old player. you just don't. |
