Indeed, that was my greater point. Caitlin is just so far ahead of the curve in terms of entertainment value. She's really in a league of her own, pun intended.
I fear the worst if something catastrophic were to ever happen to her (god forbid), because it'll be back to square one for the WNBA. Hopefully her style of play will inspire more to try and emulate it (similar to the way Curry inspired a league wide change in the mens ranks), but I imagine more strength/physiological challenges exist for females when it comes to shots at that range. She's a 1 of 1.
The insane part of this is that the WNBA has basically allowed teams to take away what makes her special by defending her with two hands on her, at least, all over the court. Tough to shoot the deep 3 or get to the rim when you're being forcefully redirected. I can't understand why the league hasn't adjusted the refs. Imagine the NHL limiting Gretzky or MLB encouraging umps to squeeze the Zone on Ohtani. It makes no sense. |
I'd take a chance on that Royale @ $3k but you know the dumb money is out there to pull the trigger whenever and plenty well before the floor - hope I'm wrong but seems likely.
There's a good book coming out next month about her - the author made an appropriate comparison - likening this to the 1999 USWNT for soccer. |
I would compare Caitlin Clark to Michael Jordan or Steph
her impact goes beyond basketball |
Caitlin voted in as a Captain for the All-Star game (Nepheesa is the other Captain).
Hopefully CC is healthy and able to play by then. |
We all know why. Mrs. Mebounds and the rest of the 'future forgettables' (for things other than actual basketball talent) won't let financial logic triumph over their natural estrogen instincts to eliminate a fellow female out of pure jealousy. _insert_jerry_springer_clip_here.wmv_ And the league has their hands tied because they want to be all-in on inclusivity and fair playing fields even if it comes at the expense of their single golden cow. This ain't even necessarily about race either, as recent events have shown. It's more about the sheer spite that many hold against her for salvaging an otherwise lackluster league. At least in the NBA you only get a handful of psychos like Draymond because everyone's pretty much eating and living life on EZ mode. Not a great situation, but also not one that's easily solvable without seeming insensitive and ruffling a lot of feathers. |

Do not buy one off the secondary market kids, they'll be guaranteed Reese autos not Clark. |

ya definitely would agree with those as well |
Do you really think all this WNBA "inclusivity" actually bothers Clark? Could she one day say "screw it" and go the Big3? I know Cube is paying a pretty penny and they would actually treat her like the star she is.

Not "only" to CC, but it happens to her far more often and more obviously than for other players. Refs absolutely don't call fouls on CC like they do for other players and people are making video compilations now. Tgame where Sheldon poked her in the eye the poke wasn't even called a foul, she got a tech (along with CC) and the same game there's a shot of sheldon with literally a fistful of CC 's flesh as she grabs her arm. Another good clip is someone having both hands on CC for several seconds and CC still about to go by her so she grabs and holds her are with the ref literally less than 6 feet away watching the whole thing and no call. CC has played 9 games so far and only taken 38 free throws for an average of just 4.22 per game (high of 6, low of 0). With her playing time and the coverage she gets only getting to the line 4 times a game is ridiculous. |

I don’t necessarily blame the opponents for trying to do what they can, but the refs and the league are asleep at the wheel. It’s pretty flagrant hand checking and the eye poking stuff is ridiculous. CC poked in the eye this year and at least 2 times last year as well. If league was smart, they would start suspending players for eye pokes. They also need to pass rules on all the hand checking. It’s like the 1980s Bad Boys Pistons out there. |

It really does sound like it's on the refs to correct but good luck with that. There's been several NBA players with the same beef but the pushback seems to make it worse :( |
What exactly does someone like Paige do that sets her apart? Another Sabrina archetype that doesn't really move the needle once the dust settles and hype wears.
Paige has a much larger social media presence than CC, and while that alone won't get her to CC's current level, her stats are also nothing to scoff at currently. Their first 13 W games head to head: Not pictured is steals and blocks through 13 games. CC averaged 1.4 steals/0.9 blocks, while PB is averaging 1.8 steals/0.9 blocks. This is not exactly David vs Goliath here. Paige is also averaging more points and better FG/3PT/FT% across the board compared to CC this season. |
Paige bueckers might have a bigger social media presence but she isn't even close to being as big of a celebrity as caitlin

What did rookie royalty sell out at? Just curious,I missed it

Made it to the floor but was gone within 30 seconds. I personally couldn't checkout |
Sold out at the $4K level. Nice 8 million for Panini...
|
“Sold out” at the floor with only 1 listing on eBay with someone trying to flip their box typically means they pulled the remaining inventory from the site to make it appear as a sell out and now they will be selling the rest of the boxes to breakers/distributors.

This setup seems ripe for abuse. It would be all too easy for Panini to hold back the best cards and give it to breakers/distributors... |

Yeah that’s one of the reasons I couldn’t stomach it. Even if it’s just conspiracy theory, it’s just too much money to blow without confidence. I lost a lot of confidence after i realized people can scan sealed boxes. Even if less than 1% of people actually do it, just sort of ruined it for me. |
so some people got boxes at 3k?
glad panini got screwed over |
I love CC but let’s give up this “omg what will happen to wnba if she’s gone” narrative lol

No one cares about any team other than the Fever. These or other teams will fold at some point. Watering down an already terrible product is asinine. |
