Get your wallets out - or, as I'm doing, put them firmly away.
Dear Topps Now Platinum Members, It was a Friday Night Frenzy on the Diamond- with the Big Apple Headlining the Show! The Martian is here! At 20 years old, Jasson Domínguez became the youngest Yankees player ever to homer in his first career game. Domínguez did it in style, hitting a laser over the left field wall at Minute Maid Park in his first big league at bat. The last Yankee to homer in their first MLB at bat was Aaron Judge on August 13, 2016. Speaking of Aaron Judge, the Yankees superstar became major league baseball’s fastest player to reach 250 career home runs. It took Judge a total of 810 games before reaching the milestone. The Yankees went on to win the game 6-2. Ronny Mauricio made his highly anticipated major league debut for the Mets at Citi Field and smoked a 117.3 mph double off the bat in his first at bat to record his first hit. This was the hardest hit ball for an MLB first hit of the stat cast era. Mauricio finished the night 2-for-3 and the Mets won the game 2-1. There will be a total of three early offerings today to celebrate the big moments of Jasson Domínguez, Aaron Judge, and Ronny Mauricio- they are as followed: Jasson Domínguez: TRIPLE Game-Used Base Relic from first home run/MLB debut (first, second, and third base from Home Run), one card pack- /99 & below- $699.99 per pack. Aaron Judge: Single Game Used- Base Relic from 250th career home run- fastest ever to mark in MLB history, one-card pack -/99 & below- $299.99 per pack. Ronnie Mauricio: Single Game Used- Base Relic from multi-hit major league debut, one-card pack- /99 & below- $199.99 per pack. Like the other cards this year, members will be allowed to reserve one of these one-card packs of each player. Please be advised, today’s reservations will close at 12pm EST. For today’s early offering, please visit the following links to order your packs. $700 and no auto?:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:
|
$700 and no auto? :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:
Can you blame them for trying? Everything else sells out, regardless of how ridiculously it's priced, why not push it further?
I'll admit, at $200, I would've tried Ronny. But without an auto, not a chance on that one either. I'm sure MLB is steadily upping their prices on some of these too, but $700 for Martian's triple relic...still a wow. |
#77 prospect $700 relic? think I will pass, gonna try and get a Ronny but only because I am a Met fan

Live, if you want 'em.
...Yeah, I mean, it's September... what else would it have?
I bought some since it’s his first homerun. That may trump the callup designation imho.
Vinny :)! |
Another Dominguez hr card?

Vinny :)!
I don't really follow the resale market much on TN but I always thought a guy's first card commanded the premium - barring insane PRs? Do people really prefer a TN card from a guy's 2nd year just because it has "RC" on it instead of "Call-up"? |

Do people really prefer a TN card from a guy's 2nd year just because it has "RC" on it instead of "Call-up"?
I'm definitely more interested in first card than any random RC logo card, but I'm sure there are people with all sorts of preferences that would strike me as odd. In this case, he actually had two cards before this one - from the 2021 and 2022 Futures Games. Those, of course, didn't even have the Call-Up logo, making them true oddballs. |

I can't imagine a world in which there isn't one. Also one for Alonso's 2 HR game and reaching 40 again (third time in five seasons, etc.). Also one for Ohtani's SB putting him in the 40/20 club again. |

The problem with Topps Now... for now... is that it feels like it's a great product for fans and hobby collectors, but isn't a great buy as investments, yet we see so many spec buyers go into the Topps online website, whether buying Topps Project 2020, Topps Project 70 or any of the Topps Now Products and these are the worst resale business people. They often sell at losses on cards they either chase parallel variants, or went in over their heads in buying not realizing the cards don't sell for good profits as quick flips. So many sellers offer cards on eBay with free shipping and under cost all while enduring eBay fees... ridiculous !!! Many who do try to make profies are happy with 5-20% ROI on the cards they can make money on and it's a blood bath for a lot of their overpriced cards as they're offered for far less than the original Topps direct to consumer solicitation.
What's happening? Topps is cutting out the middle-man and pricing them at above FMV, to near eliminate the ease of reselling for profit or those famous "bots" to bother hoarding the cards. There's so many not so bright buyers who resell too low, and much as a rising tide lifts all ships, an "every man, woman and child for themselves" mass exodus kills the cards values and perception of worth. They are cool cards, but far from worth investing in as there's far more losers than winners. That Jasson Dominguez card is overpriced, but right priced for fans. You'd have to sell it for $1,000 to make it a worthwhile investment. |

One of the most abused words on this forum. I resell some things at a loss (P2020 and P70) included inside years that I have just too many good sales. These days if you sell anything at all, you have to explain it in taxes. I think that forces a lot of people into "dump it, dump it all now" mode. You get one or two great hits sales and then you either pay ~38% on profits in taxes or you sell off the dumb stuff you bought at a steep loss in the same year. I am rolling through selling 2013-2015 Leaf autos I stupidly broke ten years ago now while the market's hot and I've made some great Star Wars sales. I'm sure some people are rolling in dough over the lots of TN cards for wemby and elly I've seen selling for puzzling amounts of money on ebay. That gravy train gonna stop one day though. Why do you see people dumping cards for nothing that they just paid $20 for a couple years ago? Because they are having insane profits in other ways. Topps Now is not a packed out product and therefore I don't think you're ever going to see it touch Bowman Draft or flagship prices of firsts/RCs. That said, it's fun as hell, the collector in me loves it. I think once you stop looking at people as a false dichotomy of collector OR flipper the stuff you don't understand makes a lot more sense. |

And if you get lucky and a card becomes a meme(like the Bernie sanders card), you can make a quick profit. A 20 card order is $80 plus tax. $4 a card. Down from $10 for a single card order. Yes, selling at $6 with free shipping likely doesn’t have a great ROInper card, but in a volume of hundreds and thousands, it adds up. Plus, you forget that the sellers also get tops rewards points for the orders. And depending on your tier, are getting four points per dollar. And those rewards are good ONLY for topps now. A $40 reward applied to a 20 card order is now $40, or $2 per card. Not so bad at resale now. The project 2020/70 crowd isn’t the topps now crowd. You can’t compare the resale habits. You have idiots destroyed my cards to inflate value. I also think topps now does well with in person sales. |
Also keep in mind the people buying in mass bulk are doing so in hopes of getting a numbered parallel which usually bring significantly more than a base Topps Now. So they can afford to sell the base at a loss and make their profits on the parallels which 9/10 times will gem mint at PSA.

That said is there a database somewhere that will tell you how many Topps Now cards a specific player has and what year/card # it was ?
I know there is the Archive section on the Topps website but it's not really searchable by player you just have to scroll through it. |
