Well this has been an exciting game.
Nestor looking great once again.:flex: |
Nestor is awesome. Probably no chance he pitches the 9th for a complete game. :(
|
Those runs might be needed way to go Joey bag O doughnuts.
|
Wait until the 9th inning to actually knock in a run on a hit.
Maybe Nestor will pitch the 9th. :coffee: |

This is embarrassing for our Tampa Tarpons. :(
Dunedin Blue Jays pitchers strike out 24 batters in combined two-hitter: https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/33921647/dunedin-blue-jays-pitchers-strike-24-batters-combined-two-hitter Vargas and Dominguez both struck out 4 times each. |
In the old stadium dimensions Stanton would’ve had a home run.

Gleyber looking much better as of late.

Fun to watch. Gleyber hustles into 2nd, then a 3 run homer

The way this team is pitching, every Yankees starter should be on the All Star team. :D
We at least have to get Nestor to his first All Star Game. :)! |
New York (26-9) is off to one of the best 35-game starts in franchise history. Only the 1939 and 1928 teams, at 28-7, were better at this point.
Interesting that the team is off to a better start than when they won 114 games in 1998. |
The only bad thing about beating up on the Orioles is that Boston is no longer last in the division. :(

Just looking at some advanced team stats and although they lead baseball in offensive value, they could be a lot better.
Specifically looking at plate discipline, the Yankees as a team swing at pitches outside of the zone 32.3% of the time (for reference, that ranks 15th in baseball with LAD on top as they only do that 27% of the time). The Yanks have a team contact percentage of 75.9% which ranks 18th in baseball. Yes, Joey Gallo is terrible and sits at a contact percentage of 64.3% (lowest on the team) and a Pull percentage of 60.4% (highest on the team). According to Statcast, the Yankees lead baseball in average exit velo with 91.7mph AND Hard Hit percentage at 46.9%. If the Yankees REALLY want to be feared by opponents, they should look to improve their plate discipline and follow their hitting philosophy more closely. "Hit strikes hard" As for pitching, you can't really ask for much more than what we are already getting. The Yanks lead baseball in limiting hard contact with only 24.3%. They are also 3rd in baseball in strikeout percentage with 25.7%. This translates to them being able to strike out a lot of batters and when they do make contact it's usually not that damaging. Other pitching notables: -Leads baseball in LOB% with 80.5%. -Leads baseball in FIP- with 80. -2nd in baseball in getting opposing hitters to swing at pitches outside the zone at 34.5% -3rd in baseball for strikeout/walk ratio -Clay Holmes has an average launch angle of -8.7 degrees, which is second in MLB. Excited to see how these numbers change as the season goes on. |
I'd be more interested in the numbers without gallo.

Who can we get to replace him? I still think Florial in aggregate would be a better option. |

Florial and like I said in the Gallo thread, I would pay Gardy a million to be out there over Gallo. At least Gardy wouldn't be striking out 3 times a game. |
