As you just watch Seager and Freeman go to other teams....you guys better hope Joey Gallo hits 80 HR this year or you're toast. Me too, because I doubt the small market Yankees will pony up to keep him.

JRX 03-17-2022 08:12 AM

If you really want to see how bad Cashman is at this, just look at the future payroll.

2023: 145M 23 players
2024: 98M 18 players
2025: 93M 8 players
2026: 82M 6 players

Yeah the Dodgers have turned into George's Yankees. Soon, they will be called the Evil Empire. George must be rolling over in his grave about the cheapness of Hal.

The Dodgers 2 top earners this season are Trevor Bauer and David Price.

That's actually not too bad considering that the $145m number is the total payroll. The 40 man payroll is only $100m for 2023 but that doesn't include estimated arb numbers.

Chapman, Judge (for now), Gallo, and Britton are coming off the books. It will be even lower if/when they don't exercise Sevy's $15m club option. (they won't)

Depending on what further moves they make, the Yanks are going to have a around $100m to play with before hitting the first tax threshold.

Too much pessimism too soon. I'll remain optimistic until the first time Gleyber loafs to first, and if Boone looks the other way, let the games begin.

So game 1?

JRX 03-17-2022 08:44 AM

Its not updated for Freeman, but the dodgers were at 42M in 2026 for 10 players. So I guess that's maybe 65 more 11. Still about 20M less than Yankees and 5 more players.

Its more that the Dodgers in particular are showing how poorly constructed the Yankees are both in terms of payroll flexibility and player development.

The way the Dodgers have navigated their payroll and roster the past 5-6 years is the gold standard. Not afraid to say I'm jealous.

They have great development strategies on par with the Rays along with the disposable income to fill the wholes where it's needed. I believe we are seeing the Yankees *trying* to catch up but stuff like that takes a while to establish within an organization.

JRX 03-17-2022 08:56 AM

We're not even set up to add Soto in 2025. We have 92M committed to 8 players not including an extension for Judge. The Dodgers are about 30M less. Hate to say it but if he doesn't sign with the Nats, he's probably going there or the Mets who have 54M committed to 7 players.

One of those is still Hicks.. lololol

JRX 03-17-2022 09:19 AM

Actually its 92M for 4 players in 2025 the other 4 are just players that are still arb eligible. That's Cole, Stanton, DJ, and Hicks, for 92M. the dodgers just have mookie, freeman, and chris taylor under contract with 10 guys still arb eligible.

There goes my Voit PC. :(

Padres get slugger Voit from Yankees:

Because I am sure others want to know info on the return, from MLB Padres Top Prospects list:
Scouting grades: Fastball: 65 | Slider: 55 | Changeup: 45 | Control: 45 | Overall: 50

Lange put his name on the map with a big-time fastball that erupted in the early spring preceding the 2020 Draft. He routinely hit the upper 90s and touched 100 mph, vaulting into the supplemental first round, where he signed with the Padres for $2 million as the 34th overall selection.

Lange's fastball sits in the mid-90s and can feature both run and sink. He has the makings of a second power pitch in a slider that could become a plus mid-80s weapon with bite. The pitch is inconsistent, however, and should be a focal point of Lange’s as he begins to face pro hitters. He will also incorporate a changeup, which he rarely threw against high-school opposition.

A quick-twitch athlete, Lange added 25 pounds of muscle in the offseason prior to the Draft and had one of the best bodies in the 2020 high school pitching class. He has a huge ceiling but will need time to reach it, given his unrefined secondary pitches and shaky control and command. His slightly unorthodox low-arm-slot delivery also raises a few question marks.

I'd be more excited if I had any faith in our player development

Now I'm back to square one on figuring out which Yankee to PC.

To put it into perspective, after Tanaka left, here's my Voit collection (Yankees cards only):

Own 582 of 1037 cards or 56.1% (doesn't include cards not in Beckett like the Return to Opening Day)

Own 120 autograph cards

Own 73 relic cards

Own 347 serial numbered cards

Own an autographed baseball and 16x11 photo.

Wow, that's a solid PC. Now what? Volpe?:p

Ouch. I’m nervous about my Torres PC going out the window as well. Not nearly as impressive as your Voits though.

His autographs are a little expensive due to the hype.

Thankfully I can't PC Sanchez. :flex:

Maybe I should focus on one of these new guys from the trade or someone like Deivi Garcia or Luis Gil.

That was the best they could get for Voit? Kinda sad return.

I'm hesitating on Judge stuff a little until I see that contract happen.

Still probably better than relievers Chasen Shreve and Giovanny Gallegos that we gave the Cardinals to get him in the first place.
I'm hesitating on Judge stuff a little until I see that contract happen.
Yeah, I wish I had gone all in on Judge from the beginning and didn't let up. At the time, I think I was going after Bird more and those tons of strikeouts in the minors had me thinking Judge wouldn't work out. Then he won ROY and his stuff exploded and put a high price on parallels and autographs.

I did get a few early relics and autos though but only have a total of 18 and 13 of each with a paltry 47 serial numbered cards and 684 cards; mostly base and inserts.
