"Should I get this graded?", when it is a 9th year base Trout

Gustomania 12-22-2020 11:02 AM

Here’s one, it probably won’t be popular but.....

I hate it when people send $200-300 cards Priority in a box. Send them well packaged as First Class in a bubble mailer.

Browns1981 12-22-2020 11:59 AM

Misinformation like "1992 Upper Deck Craig Biggio rookie card PSA 10" and it's not his rookie card and the picture is of an non-graded raw card.

Ironically, the answer to this one is yes.

Fools wearing gloves in box break videos.

Serial numbering on front of the card.

If a distracting serial number is needed on front of the card, it’s because nobody would be able to tell how rare the card is without it...which means the card isn’t important to begin with.

It's one thing normally and a different thing right now. With the delays and such, at least priority reduces your chances of a card stalling out for 10 days and ebay forcing a refund.

DioBrando 12-22-2020 03:38 PM

People complaining about tape on toploaders. I always reholder any cards I get

hairysasquatch 12-22-2020 03:40 PM

People who steal toploaders sent with cards when returning them for a refund. Scum.
People who steal toploaders sent with cards when returning them for a refund. Scum.
Seriously people do that? As much as I'd like to move some cards, stuff like that keeps me from selling

griffan15 12-22-2020 04:04 PM
pet peeve in the past was not knowing what card was actually a players rookie card.

thinking back to the 90s before one could simply go on the internet and check, and cards did not yet have the RC logo.
I'll add to this:

People listing Bowman prospect cards as RCs. Prospect cards aren't RC cards, just knock off that nonsense.

griffan15 12-22-2020 04:06 PM
People complaining about tape on toploaders. I always reholder any cards I get
I think it's the fact that you have to cut open the tape to get the card out, not the fact that they can't reuse the toploader.
Why does that bother you? Maybe it really was their highest offer. Now if they came back with an $9 counter then I'd understand.
Yep..had this happen a few times..buyer sends offer..i counter..buyer sends LOWER offer than initial offer..i feel like thats an f you to the seller for not taking the original offer

Gustomania 12-22-2020 04:11 PM

I pretty much don’t sell so as a buyer don’t give a rip.

If something is delayed I’m fine, if eBay forces a refund I I’ll pay again once card arrives, but I know there are scumbags out there.
I feel like people trying to sell their old childhood junk wax collections on offerup and Facebook marketplace must think buyers are the most gullible people in the world. They'll take one photo of the outside of a small stack of monster boxes and put things like this in the description:

"Could be some hidden gems in here. No time to go through them"

"My loss is your gain"

"No idea how much they're worth. Probably thousands"

And they'll usually follow it up with my favorite one:

"$500. No low ballers. I know what I got"

On this note there was a fb listing for some raw low end emmitt smith cards from 91-92..dude says "these cards have sold for 200-300 a PIECE"..LMAO

Chris P 12-22-2020 04:15 PM

Here's a pet peeve of mine here with retail finds "i was ONLY able to get _ boxes"..its like a humble brag and salt to the wound for those (like me lol) who rarely find anything in the wild. Be grateful you got something!

Chris P 12-22-2020 04:18 PM

Sorry to keep posting, but another one, which was recently was people's definition of bad breaks. In the Montgomery Club thread, people were acting like pulling Chipper Jones and Ryne Sandberg was the equivalent of pulling Bryan Abreu or some random 30 year relief pitcher like you pull in more expensive products like Topps Chrome..it got the point where I started believing people were trolling that thread

I send higher dollar in the 8X6X4's that ebay provides. I've had bad experiences with bubblemailers getting smashed.
I still send low-mid range in bubblemailers, but higher dollar seems more protected this way
. But I do understand this may be frustrating for apartment units that may have thin mail box set ups.

True. It used to be just semantics but now we have clearly defined Rookies in 99 percent of scenarios.

Forgot to mention

1. Weird fixation and obsession with crossing grades over from a BGS 9 to a PSA 9, BGS 9.5 to PSA 10, asking will this grade XYZ.

2. Images taken at an angle with no natural lighting. Especially in conjunction with 1, above. Here's an amazing tip if you don't own a scanner. Take the baseball card. Go outside and set it down. Take a picture of it in the sunlight. In this vein, weird pictures with feet or hands showing of the card. Especially when the person's nails look like they just got done excavating the holy grail.

3. -Dorky breakers that don't know the players, but say
"Oh, a nice Henry Owens"

"Oh, a nice Jeff Cirillo"

"Oh, a nice Ricky Bones"

It gives off this sense of trying to justifying the price of the break.

I would much prefer it if a breaker said something like,

"Well this product is crap. Here's Sean Casey. Maybe the Reds owner will be happy. Everyone else, you aren't missing much."

4. Referring to any card as an "investment piece", "investment grade", or "historic"

danimal875 12-22-2020 07:50 PM
As mentioned above , when sellers put possible PSA 10. I call BS on sellers who do that because If the seller thought it was a possible PSA 10 then why wouldn’t they send it in to PSA themselves and capitalize on even more profit!

Keep the responses coming! Some very good posts!
I used to feel the same but with standard 20 day orders not getting entered for 2 months and being 2 months late, I have almost given up on anything worth less than 200+ in Gem condition.
