All added to the Altered Card Database.

Yes PSA removed the card from their holder and said it was no longer an authentic Jordan autograph. They pushed the customer towards PWCC for a refund.
That reporter has now done at least two stories on the Jordan but neither mention who removed the card from the PSA holder. Did the buyer crack the card out and submit for re-grading? Did PSA remove the card and push the customer towards PWCC for the refund?
|
For anyone interested, Brian Gray of all people had a recent interview with Bill Mastro. Probstein (a few years ago) and now Brain Gray. Two quality interviewers.
Good Net54 thread also discussing the video. https://www.net54baseball.com/showthread.php?t=354242 BG messes up the interview flow a lot, but the Wagner specifics start around 1h:06 into the video. Nothing really new, but BG and Mastro have some interesting takes on altered cards. Also thought it was funny hearing Mastro claim the Wagner wasn't part of his legal issues, only used by the government as a prop.
Thought this was an good interview with Jeffrey Lichtman. Nothing really new about the fbi investigation but does briefly discuss pwcc (humorous wisecrack about the Fanatics purchase) Mastro, sgc/psa and some of his own collection.
|
As this "7" is referenced in the auction, thought this would be a good thread to share the discussion.
Great work from the two Collectors Holding grading companies. https://www.net54baseball.com/showthread.php?t=357497 Goldin sold the SGC (min size), suggesting in the description the card was trimmed and is now selling the same card in a PSA 6.5, referencing the previously documented altered PSA 7.:)! Now graded by PSA as a 7. Does SGC still want the card back for a review? :coffee:
|
Not directly related to this thread, but a note from the original complaint filing in this USPS theft case caught my attention. While the grading companies continue to mostly ignore before/after images of alteration, here's another example of the DOJ, using "card fingerprints" as evidence.
Maybe nothing will ever come from the FBI investigation, but thought this was worth a share. |
Brent is back

Bringing back this epic thread to note that apparently, Brent is back in the hobby, as evidenced by this photo from a recent dinner where he's sitting next to Mike Baker with whom he likely is working.
PS If anyone can insert a larger image I'd appreciate it, I'm challenged that way. |

It would likely have been around the time MBA moved to Tigard, OR. It was disappointing to see but #@#@#@#@ like this happens in the hobby. Mike's original partner, Demian Warner, left MBA recently and allegedly because Brent started taking a less silent role at MBA and Demian did not approve. Despite Brentsy being involved with MBA I had talked with Mike numerous times about moving my grading to MBA but after seeing the pic you posted on Net54 of the grossly over graded T206 Wagner SGC 5 that Baker put a Gold sticker on, I just cannot bring myself to do business with them. Was a huge hurdle for me to pretend Brent was not involved but to see that it is just the usual politics of grading there too, is not a solution for me. PSA can get away with it. MBA will not, imo. |

BFD...What would be a meaningful difference is to REDUCE the politics and favoritism in grading and maybe have a few less fraudsters behind key companies we all rely upon to do business. |

Not sure that is going to happen, especially in the aftermath of the spectacular failure of the federal investigation which realistically has now conferred freedom to operate for a lot of bad behavior. |

Can someone catch me up on the issue with Brentsy?
I feel like the last I heard it them was 10 years ago when they were busting 500 cases or whatever. |

I was not told the reason he had left until I had a conversation the other day with someone who has been in touch with Demian. |

Did the FBI run out of resources? It was an incredibly missed opportunity to potentially open Pandora's box looking into TPG involvement. Amazing how the full TPG submission history (cert #'s) records of the parties involved were never made public. How is that not a failure of the investigation for collectors that bought expensive cards graded by card doctors? |

Read the first 300 pages of this thread. It's worth the week(s) it will take to read, especially if you're a furloughed federal worker. Bring your blood pressure medication. |
Thought this note from a counterfeit PSA slab court case, was worth sharing in this thread.
"The Government is not aware of any substantiated claims of misconduct by PSA related to grading or authenticating cards" Totaly understand the government is using PSA as witnesses in this case (silly to discredit your own witnesses), but this sentence made me laugh. Did they completely forget about WIWAG, Mastro, PWCC,.... and the many other documented issues with PSA? |
Who’s the Michael Jordan of the graded collectible world that is going to be the instrument of change and accountability at PSA?
Who’s the Michael Jordan of the graded collectible world that is going to be the instrument of change and accountability at PSA?
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
It would have to be someone from inside PSA. The problem is, the people inside PSA probably have an extremely valuable collection of PSA 10's and wouldn't want to devalue them. And there's too much money in slabbed cards for anyone to be able to take it down. I'm pretty sure that if there was a video of Nate himself trimming a card and putting it in a PSA 10 slab, sealing it, and selling it for $1,000,000, a week later no one would care. It's become gambling, which is now a mainstream part of our culture. There's no putting the toothpaste back in the tube. |
