This is what you get when products are made for breakers instead of collectors. Breakers don't care about missing hits, card damage, wrong wording, etc.
For those who don't want to watch the break
Jim Palmer generic napkin/auto ~$50 Pete Alonso generic bat/auto ~$75 JT Realmuto generic napkin/auto ~$75 Mariano Rivera generic napkin/auto ~$150 Jeremy Pena/Craig Biggio generic patch/auto ~$100 Spencer Strider generic napkin/auto ~$100 Torii Hunter generic bat/auto ~$50 David Ortiz letter patch (1/1 lol) ~$250 woof
Nothing like taking a $3,150 shaft to the rectum...that is IF one can sell them all... I audibly groaned when I saw the Jim Palmer and Torii Hunter pulled. Gross. |
Take a look at this checklist, which you can actually sort by team. https://cardboardglory.com/2024-topps-sterling-checklist-release-date-product-info-odds-sheet/
The big problem is that the product is littered with players that are sort of in between The Hank Aaron, Mickey Mantle, Ted Williams vintage era big value guys and the current guys. Jim Palmer, Ozzie Smith, Mark Grace, and Bobby Mercer, are not going to return more than $50-$70 for you at best. at $500 a pop? the math just doesn't add up. a lot of grenades in the product!
Prices are high because topps and breakers know they can get paid simply because: Degenerates cannot help themselves and resist. An intervention must be in order for your fellow hobbyists. |
The product appears to be a bit watered down compared to previous years and the pack out obviously got seriously messed up.
Based on recent history, I don’t think anyone at Fanatics messed up. They want to deliver less and charge you more. They’ll do it until you stop buying. |

Exactly. To an extreme they will make every single card a redemption card until you stop buying. Degenerates are their favorite customers - they have money to spend and have little to zero standards. |

Torii Hunter in a product like this, lmao
Torii Hunter in a product like this, lmao
Before the breakers got to it, this was a single card product with only the best stars/HOf at $250/box. Now it’s double the price with Tori Hunter - BOOM! |

It's easy (and accurate) to blame breakers for the high prices of wax here, but it seems odd to think they wouldn't care about missing hits, damage, and wording/packout snafus. These things seem to be industry-wide and not specific to breaker products. I've yet to see a breaker who would just ignore a missing hit. |

The point is, people are still participating with fists full of dollars in breaks despite those insufficiencies. This will continue until the US hits a major recession, something most breakers have yet to deal with because of our 16 year bull run. |
It's crazy too that I follow plenty of facebook breakers and prices increase yet there are always the buyers quickly for the crazy high teams. Then only 8 or so teams claimed out comes the minis and sometimes micros for minis... Seriously? so instead of taking a team at say 100 you would rather pay 55 at a 50/50 chance to get maybe a 200 team or could get a 35 team or none at all.
Not to mention team randoms on say draft. 3 box breaks at $99? Seriously? Then the HTA breaks. Even less a chance to get anything since only autos. At least with the hobby and jumbo you will get some chrome cards. Not to mention the new era of paper and/or base not shipping. Look I have my addictions, demons and issues but I/we/they all need help.
All the justifications I hear - “But I’m a team collector” “It’s cheaper to get into a break” “I don’t really collect baseball, I’m just trying to hit it big” “I’m doing this for my kids” All fallacies that feed into the degeneracy. |
Oops. In my old age I am losing it! I have a few Sterling HOF autos and I swore they were manufactured relics. I got them out and it says, "The relics contained in this card are not from any specific game, event, or season." I misread that when I got the cards and thought they were manufactured. Says, "Game-used" right on the front!
I also have some sticker Sterling autos, but they were from 2007 - 2009. I thought they were more recent.
I think you’re confusing this product the Bowman Sterling… |
Just watched a break of this trash where one of the hits was a dual jersey Randy Johnson 1/1. Not a patch dual or even an auto, just dual jersey pieces. What a total garbage product.

and who want 3 or 4 tiny patches worst product of 2024
|
Saw a box of this broken..one of the mini boxes was "Yankees Greats"
The card was Austin Wells LOL And yes the guy pulling it tried to spin it as a good hit |

Lack of competition is doing this -- plain and simple. There are no better options for licensed baseball trading cards. The low effort, incompetence, cost cutting and price gouging are not unique to Fanatics. Any company will take advantage of ignorant or compulsive consumers. Consumers have to speak with their wallets and withold their patronage to effect change. Otherwise, a company will keep taking advantage of them. |
