When the 2018 bowman ohtani superfractor auto was pulled, I believe Beckett had a full article on the location of the pull. That’s the standard for reporting.

So fanatics paid psa to grade plus a portion of perceived value of card ?
To be transparent asked same fee question I’m sgc thread …. If that’s how that works ? |
The kid in the letter implied his parents found it at a shop for $350.
It actually doesn't. He said his normal LCS raised their price to $350, which was too expensive, so his parents didn't buy it. Then he says they searched for a better price, and found one for $320. So that could be a random ebay seller, or random online seller, or a random LCS he doesn't frequent. So either he doesn't know the name of the LCS, or it wasn't important since it wasn't his normal LCS. But since BO likes conspiracies, how about this: The LCS isn't direct with Fanatics or an authorized breaker, so Fanatics didn't want them to be named. Since it seems clear the kid was told what types of information to include in his write-up. |
Just one question ?
After this is all over …. How will the event be remembered ? Fanaticsgate ? Skenesgate ? Lol Just curious.
Patch Boy |

Why hasn’t it been revealed yet? Even “off eBay from dealer x” would have been suitable. Their publicity releases have been as incompetent as some yahoo articles referencing a photograph but not actually showing the photograph itself in the article, ie clickbait. Most people here are critical of fanatics because that’s all they want from this story - clickbait. Zero reporting integrity. |

The letter never implies there was a physical store involved. It starts with mom saying she would get it but work got too busy and she forgot. And then Black Friday came and the price never dropped. But then one day she found a box while for cheaper.
I don't read that and think mom was running all over LA checking all the shops. That reads like they were looking online. |
the letter is AI

Maybe Fanatics backdoored the card to Paul for a chance to sit in Livvys suite

When a person hits a progressive jackpot of $3 million at a casino but wants to remain anonymous, the name of the casino is always, always, always named in all public reports.
Why wasn’t the source released here? They are hiding something. |

Like they backdoored the LeBron/curry/durant auto to giannis? All the fanatics topps now sheep still defending them like they actually had a chance, lol. |
They could have mentioned the “parents found a box online” but they didn’t.
They are hiding something.
At this point it really doesn't matter for the BOCT. Them saying where the box was purchased isn't going to satisfy anyone. It will just spark more conspiracies. |

I think if they simply mentioned they bought a single box from online retailer blowout cards, folks would be satisfied. |

No, they wouldn't, and you know it. But, if they did say it came from BO, would your whole belief system come crumbling down? |
No, they wouldn't, and you know it.
But, if they did say it came from BO, would your whole belief system come crumbling down?
Please, tell me what my belief system is. I believe news should be reported properly. It wasn’t done so here, and they are inviting skeptics by doing so. |
Please, tell me what my belief system is.
You literally just called everyone sheep who thought they had a crack at this card. If it came from a box purchased from BO, then yes, people had a crack at it. The only way people never had a crack at the card is if it was backdoored. |

My big takeaway in all of this is: people don’t trust Fanatics/Topps. They’re not transparent in much. They overcharge, and everybody that bought a $800 jumbo box and got $30 worth of cards is upset that they didn’t pull it. No matter who pulled it, they’d be upset about it. What this really speaks about is: the need for the 4 letter word: “regulation.” Accountability and transparency are needed especially with Topps having a monopoly next year on almost everything card related. If Topps doesn’t want to do it voluntarily, then they’ll get what they deserve with over regulation.

Every single thing about this entire situation is completely insane
The most insane thing is how concerned people are about knowing the identity of a middle school aged kid |

The most insane thing is how concerned people are about knowing the identity of a middle school aged kid
Nobody wants to know the kid’s identity - it’s irrelevant. Journalistic integrity demands the full story. Where did the box come from is one of the most basic things for the public to know to maintain trust for the company. Their leaving out such an important fact smells of a cover up. |

Their leaving out such an important fact smells of a cover up.
Do you read the thread? People absolutely wanted to know the kid's identity. They wanted to know who the dad was. Because they want to know if it was some breaker or a Fanatics employee. I was looking at the box break section. I see some people don't mention where they purchased the box from. Kept this same energy and go start accusing them of hiding something. |

In the 3 years since they purchased Topps, they have done absolutely nothing to earn that trust or even the benefit of a doubt in “questionable” events such as this one. In fact, every subsequent mishap/scandal/egregious error they have created further diminishes any good faith. I expected the worst when they announced the Topps acquisition in January of 2022 and its even worse than I anticipated. |
