In normal circumstances, they devalue the regular season.
If you want more TV fodder to grab more $$$, have a FA Cup-style single-elimination knockout tournament at some point during the season.
How in the world does a 7, 8, 9, 10 seed having a play-in tourney devalue the regular season? If anything it values getting to the 6 seed. |
LeBron out vs Nuggets tonight after re-aggravating his ankle injury. Definitely looking like Lakers will be falling to 7. I’d love to get a Lakers-Dubs 7-8 matchup, but I also want to see the Pelicans make it to the 10 seed, which means they’d have to beat the Warriors the next 2 nights to get there.

I think the FO had a panic about falling to the play-in and rushed him back too soon... and now it's looking more likely than ever that they will be the #7 and in the play-in. Curry/Lebron winner-take-all is good for the league and will be must-watch tv |
LeBron in late March, 2020: "You got Portland. You got Memphis...New Orleans and Sacramento tinkering around there...so if there's five or ten games left...why not those guys battle it out? Make them play each other all five games?"
What an asshat
Didn't he also tweet out last month saying "a storm is coming"? :coffee: |

Because it devalues the difference between the #7/8 seeds and the #9/10 seeds. After all, they've already played 82 regular season games to establish their positions in the pecking order....why should the #9/10 seeds get another chance. Imagine a situation where the #7 seed finishes eight games ahead of the #10 seed....but the key player on the #7 seed gets injured in the next-to-last game of the regular season, and without him they get knocked off by the fully healthy #10 seed. How would that be fair? |
Yesterday was a breathe for fresh air into an otherwise slow time for the NBA.
Bucks/Nets was a classic Sunday ABC matchup. Teams are fighting it out neck and neck at the top of each conference. At the bottom of each conference, 3 exciting teams are fighting to stay out of the play in round. The Lakers are making us all wonder if they can put it all together in time.... The league is starting to get exciting! |

Nothing. 7-8 seeds almost never beat a 1-2. Besides the 7-8 seeds have two chances to win 1 games, if they're that much better than the 9-10 they're probably winning, right? You seem negative to just be negative. |

It was my understanding the playin was a one time thing for a unique season. |

Agreed....I said that it was fine during the pandemic for the exact reasons you stated. However, I also said that I would not be in favor of it during a normal 82-game regular season. |

Steph putting on a show! What a treat to watch!
|
Wow Russ with 14 assists and 12 boards at the half

Sheph is displaying to everyone why they're afraid of seeing him in a do-or-die game. Every Pelican except Zion showing that they're ready for summer vacay

Bro, Lakers / Warriors play in would be gooooooold. Warriors don't have the size but sure would be a blast. |
Westbrook with 14 assists, 12 rebounds, and only 3 shots in the first half.
82 point at half for Washington. Guy is back to being pretty darn good. |
Half way through the third and he's at 10-16-19.
Legit shot at Skiles' record of 30 if Indiana can keep it close. If this were Luka there'd be 20 comments about it already instead of just me talking to myself. lol |

Hahah. Yes to did. I just lost it all in the daydreams of a Lakers/Warriors play in. |
Let’s admit it! There is not another player in the league like Westbrook. Old school style and was the reason the Wizards are playing-in bound.

Who cares? It's entertainment. It makes for more exciting Basketball late in the season. Why else would anyone be watching Wizards/Pacers right now? Because the play in that game means something! None of these lower seeds are winning the NBA title in any given year. It's good for the NBA, good for the fans. Bad for the 8 seed that is trying to get a first round exit. |
