Without either Betts or Marty, the red sox lineup is meh. One of them has to be MVP. How many big hits have they had this year? Too much to count.

Trout is just in the conversation because fans have his rookie cards.

He should be in the conversation absolutely but the W-L record of your team should weigh heavily in determining the MVP.
So which is it? Should absolutely be in the conversation, or only in the conversation because people have his RCs?

With the cycle Mookie climbed to the top.

Oh...and look...a bases clearing double....his 5th time on base tonight.

If his launch angle was a little better on that swing he would have just hit for the cycle for the second straight night...

It doesn't matter. The Trout fan boys in the media are going to push hard for Trout regardless.

Geezus, do you read what you type? Who are the fan boys? It's simply beacause a lot of great stuff gets written about him? Mike Trout has proven himself for the last six years that he is the greatest player in baseball and there have been no 'down' years.

Mookie is the MVP now that Trout has gone on the DL, no doubt. But your total homerism for the Red Sox means you also see things with blinders on. It's like you're dismissive of Trout even though his numbers are phenomenal on a TERRIBLE baseball team.

We'll see once again how your boys do in the playoffs. You're lucky they've paid for that pitching staff and JD Martinez.

Eh, didn't the Angels pay TONS of money for big names a few years ago? How did that work out?

Albert Pujols
CJ Wilson
Josh Hamilton

LMAO. He's had a bad stretch. You're right let's go easy on him.

Mookie 3 for 4 with 3 runs, 3 RBI and 2 more walks. With Trout on DL and JRam slumping, the MVP is his to lose.

Not trolling.. really curious if there has been an MVP who has missed 20+ games. Also, check out the Betts PSA 10 2014 lot I have in BST :)

Mookie was the MVP before Trout went on the DL.....Also should’ve won in 2016

Trout is an immortal. Mookie is not there yet. Take comfort in that no one on this planet with a modicum of a brain cell believes Mookie Betts is a better ballplayer than Trout. But, the Angels aren't the Athletics my man. They doll out a lot of money-- they are just one of the most poorly run franchises in recent memory. Soscia is a hackneyed manager at this stage. I respect the Angels loyalty to him but he HAS to go.

I love the Nats.. My brother and I, when we get together, spend at least 10 minutes about how Harper is behind Rendon/Scherzer/Murphy and we would be devastated if the Nats resigned him. I haven't seen Soto in the postseason but might want to add him too. I pray they let Harper walk and spend that money more efficiently. I believe Rizzo will do that, and they should sign him for the rest of his life. The guy puts a superlative product on the field every year.

Certain people can be held responsible and others are unjustly raked over the coals. Blame the Angels for the worst FA contracts in modern baseball and treating Soscia like he is Bobby Cox

Josh Hamilton won in 2010 with only 133 games. Mauer in 2009 with 138 games. Bonds in 2003 with 130 games and 1992 with 140 games. Juan Gonzalez in 1996 with 134 games. Rickey Henderson in 1990 with 136 games. Certainly not a rarity. If Betts finishes the season with the highest WAR even after missing 20 games, I think that will only help his argument.

I agree and am pulling for Mookie. You could have made that argument with Bonds (93) and Henderson (90) the rest are highly suspicious roid years. Juan Gonzalez in 1996 lol...

Mantle won it in only 123 games in 1962. Dimaggio in 1939 in 120 games. That seems to be the least amount of games for an MVP in a non-strike, non-war season.

Dennis Eckersley did it in 65 games. Sandy Koufax did it in 40.

jdandns 08-11-2018 01:32 AM

Not quite the same. That's approximately 100% of the games those two were called on to play those seasons.
