I am finally going to get off my butt and send in an order. Probably wasting money in the long run but, 1. I want to show support of SGC, 2. I don't trust CGC with vintage (hobby still seems to be call them irrelevant in sports cards), 3. I just like SGC better for HOF rookies and keep uniformity with the rest of my PC

I got a stack, just deciding how many to send in.

In regards to #3 above, I'm right there with you! I hate having a "Frankenstein" collection with mixed slabs from various companies. That's just me, but I feel like in terms of true collectors (and not flippers), that's the norm. So that also ties into the "Probably wasting money in the long run", which I don't believe will happen. Heck, if SGC went out of business tomorrow (thanks, Nat!) who knows, there may be a premium paid for centered SGC vintage cards as true collectors out there like us want to have a card graded by SGC for uniformity in their collection, and they no longer can grade them with SGC anymore. You never know. And even then, worst case scenario, if SGC values plummet (I don't see why) these cards don't magically vanish if SGC gets phased out, so we're one re-holder away from having our cards presented by another company if need be, so we're covered there too.

In related news, I'm sending in another order next week. :D

Yes, the ACTUAL card in the slab, ya know the important part, is still the same. A lot cards aren't worth changing slabs, unless you get the magic PSA 10 bonus. I don't see SGC cards losing much value at least in the short to medium run. Most people know SGC grades are legit and they aren't some back door company. I keep looking at CGC cards 90's on back for the same grade as SGC and the SGC ones seem better. I think even a defunct SGC slab will be more highly regarded than a current CGC slab (again sports cards, not ultra modern for all you pokemon people). I just don't really care that much about ultra modern as long as it is a 9, 9.5, or 10 which the difference is so minimal anyways.

This is a good video for a deep dive in the SGC values, for those that care about this short of thing. I honestly don't force on value, but I see so many people using Gemrate numbers as if that's indicative of a value trend, when in many cases it's not.

As I mentioned before, who knows, the opposite may be true long term in terms of SGC values and they could rise. There may be a premium paid for SGC vintage cards as true collectors out there like us want to have a card graded by SGC for uniformity in their collection, and since there is less supply (according to gemrate) then values might actually go up, not down.

It's refreshing to not have to worry about this sort of stuff, but it's nice to post something like this deep data dive video for all of those who think grading with SGC is just throwing money away. It's like anything. Who knows? At least in the short term it definitely is not.

When SGC closes (assuming no scandal and its PSA doing what most think they will) just a quiet "its not cost effective" thing.SGC slabs for ultra modern will fall even further....vintage slabs will keep there value similar situation as SCD has.as you said SGC has a strong reputation in pre war/vintage without a real reason to devalue them doubtful it will happen.in fact you may see a bump similar to auto's when a player passes away.supply ends.as a side note ive actually been putting together a 1987-88 fleer complete graded set in 8 or better for years now so i have a large amount of that year ungraded im toying with the idea of sending a thousand cards of 87-88 to SGC just to have for future trading or selling.once SGC closes there will be collectors that may want/need them for their sets.

The reason for the 2 different outcomes is the people who collect vintage and ultra modern are very different groups...SGC just has never been accepted in the ultra modern space.not that i agree in fact i dont understand how a tpg can be thought of as a strong reputibale vintage grader but somehow the opposite when its ultra modern.but im not in the ultra modern space so i cant offer any tangible reason for it.i know it centers around selling price but thats just the outcome not the reason.

BGS has the reverse problem but in their case i understand why, they grade vintage way to easy so i get the cause and effect with BGS.

Sent off a 20 card order to SGC today.

To simplify things, I estimate 2 months door-to-door, which means my over/under if is I get my order back before the next Super Bowl. With the holidays approaching, I'll take the over. Thanks, Nat!

So totally done with PSA

Sent these to PSA Last year. Got them back in Sept ungraded. Star Rubies was minsize and Premium Portraits required DNA auth (even though it is UD authenticated on the back of the card lol) so I declined.

I sent them to SGC in Nov and just got them back after 25 days. WIN! Never submitting to PSA again. Criminals who are now caught up in a scandal and would be prosecuted by the SEC if they were ever publicly traded.

Nice!

My other SGC order actually moved to post-grading processing today!

Received: 10-20-25
Graded/Post-Grading Processing: 12-09-25

So it looks like they might be shaving a couple of weeks off of the two month door-to-door time frame. Nice.

I just had the same issue. These two cards came back from PSA MINSIZE, so I sent them to SGC and BOOM! GRADED!!!

I will only send high end cards to PSA (for me a high end card is between $150-$500). Most of my stuff is lower end and they have priced my stuff out. I would rather purchase it already graded by PSA and let someone else take the chance.

Old Chesapeake 12-09-2025 08:24 PM

Noice! I won't ever buy PSA graded cards. I don't trust their grades. There is too much incentive built in for them to over-grade and up-charge or under-grade and get resubmissions. And now, apparently, they're undergrading so they can buy back cheap, crack, re-grade and sell. Scammers!

Still no updates on my submission delivered to SGC on 10/23 and marked as received on 10/29.

Standard (18)-card order - nothing out of the ordinary.

Not sure why they are not updating their estimated times - should be 20 to 30 business days at minimum.

inaka 12-10-2025 11:48 PM

Grades for my 16 card order just popped today!

Submitted: 10-20-25
Received: 10-28-25
Graded: 12-09-25
Shipped back: 12-10-25

Looks like ~6 weeks door-to-door now, a mild step up from the last order that was over two months door-to-door.

Grades were absolutely spot on and consistent. This is what I'm always worried about, but excellent/accurate/consistent grading still taking place at SGC. Whew.

Here are a few standouts:

Side story you guys might like. I'm normally not a hockey guy, but my dad created a few sports logos over his time, (Oakland Invaders USFL, Raiders program artwork, etc.) and he created this alternate art/logo used by the Seals hockey team in the 1970s:

My dad said he had one night to come up with a sketch they could use for team artwork when Charlie Finley asked for it, and they didn't really have a team setup yet, but they gave him some photos of certain players they had, and one of them was Carol Vadnais. So he based that art/logo off of Carol Vadnais. So this order, I graded one of his cards with this order:
