I am an SGC guy, so I am putting this here instead of under PSA news. PSA is opening a location in Boca Raton RIGHT NEXT DOOR to SGC. I remember Peter mentioning that SGC was looking to buy a location next door for expansion. Maybe I am mistaken about that.

Either way, I can't see this has being a good thing for SGC. The article states they will operation independently. I would say - For now. To me this signals that Collector's doesn't have any plans to expand SGC.

My theory on why Collector's bought SGC was more about getting qualified vintage graders more than anything. Vintage takes longer to grade. I think some of the longer wait time for SGC is getting them trained the PSA way and having standards aligned a bit more. I can see PSA just taking over the SGC spot to make it a bigger more efficient facility. It will be the primary place to send vintage.

I like SGC and have 100's of slabs, but I am now even more bearish on their future. I think I will hold off on any subs for awhile to see how some of this shakes out.
You may very well be right, but here's a slim possible counterpoint: I've been hoping that SGC would go back to offering a PSA/DNA-like on-card auto grading ever since Collector's purchased SGC. For that to happen, SGC would either have to ship auto grade submissions to PSA and get them back again by mail before finalizing the SGC auto/card grade, OR, SGC/PSA would need to have locations right next to each other in order combine resources and have this feature for SGC.

Sooo, the optimist in me is hoping that they could share resources, and it would all be PSA just poaching SGC. Maybe? *fingers crossed*

For me, I'm an SGC guy too. If SGC dies, then I'm either going to CGC or I'm out of collecting graded cards entirely. Maybe it also helps that I'm from Oakland, and after losing every major sports team, I'm used to situations like the A's where once they left and have such a terrible owner, I can't even watch baseball anymore since MLB let this happen and enabled it, and I don't even miss it. So if Collectors kills SGC, PSA will be saving me thousands of dollars since I'll stop grading and just go back to collecting raw cards. Either way, I win. :D

I would love SGC to get back to TTM autos. Didn't even think of that point. I have a CGC order right now that is for their JSA service. Hope you are right.

Whether it's car brands, hotels, restaurants, soft drinks, food, eyewear, you name it, "competing" brands operate next to one another all the time. Collectors now controls over 70% of the TPG market share. They benefit from SGC subs, they benefit from PSA subs. Brand loyalty is important.

If Hampton Inn and Hilton Garden Inn can operate (and compete) next to one another, so too can two grading companies.

Having regional hubs is key to reducing turnaround times. A submission from Florida, can stay in Florida. The entire SE, NE, and west coast will have regional hubs. I wouldn't be surprised to see a central card grading hub pop up in the near future

waytoomanycards 05-30-2025 10:15 PM

Having offices next to each other should make crossovers more feasible. They won't have to be 100% sure a card will cross before cracking it since it will be much easier to re-slab it in the other company's holder.

lol at people not understanding the concept of volume mailing contracts.

Submitted another 11 card pc order to SGC via USPS.

Delivered: 05-29-25
Received: 05-30-25

As per other posts I've seen, looks like SGC is now back to the norm of entering orders in within a day of receiving them. :)!

salsdali 05-31-2025 02:24 PM

submitted an order and received on 05/02/25

still not graded as of 05/31/25

that's 20 business days with one holiday

way to go PSA for killing everything you touch

Collector's bought SGC for one reason, to keep Fanatics from purchasing them. When they bought SGC, Fanatics had bought Topps several months before then bought PWCC to run their own auctions and were talking about doing everything including grading, SGC was ripe for the purchasing.

Exactly! PSA had no intention of improving SGC. THERE are a significant number of never PSA submitters that will switch to CGC when PSA kills the SGC brand.

CGC pump!

Companies only buy other companies when they want to become a monopoly and eliminate the competition.

Imagine in this day and age thinking a company would spend their money on another company to improve the other company. lol

Lots of companies get bought out for name recognition and continue to operate. SGC will be around, but they won't be the same company. Goodbye great customer service, turnaround times, quality of grading, and Peter.

sending a card in at the 1-2 day service. I emailed support today asking about upcharges as there is a good chance it will get one. I also asked if the 1-2 day service is behind or still being completed in the 1-2 days, he confirmed that 1-2 days is still on track.... we shall see. Card should be delivered Friday or Saturday

Jsquared123 06-17-2025 12:39 PM

Sent in a reholder at the 1-2 day level due to value.

Delivered 6/16
Received 6/17

Hopefully this also moves as promised.

Delivered today and received the same day. 25 card order of Panini Instant Paige Bueckers play. I usually use PSA for most plays, but I don't think these cards will age well. I hopefully will have them back next month and I will share my wins and losses with everyone.
Maybe there is hope of my 5/27 received package getting graded this week... Mine is 5 vintage cards that are slightly larger with Red Man Tobacco and a T202.

This was the first time I had and order be in "Post Grading Processing" for more than a day.

I've said it before, but even with these poor turnaround times (in comparison to the old SGC standards), the grading is still spot on and I'm very happy with the grades and consistency of SGC, especially for vintage.

My single card 1-2 day service card is at the post office waiting to be picked up, I am assuming SGC does not pick up mail on Saturday, so Monday will be the received day and by Wednesday it should be completed. Will post updates
