Yeah but did the original breaking story say that he was contacted? I'm wondering why he posted that. Or is it just assumed anyone with a massive card to sell contacts Goldin? I'm not a seller guys I really have no idea.

No. It was never said he was contacted, so it's not like he was correcting false information. He made a post when the news broke trying to get the person to sell with him, but he didn't know who it was. That's also where he said he was going to donate what they would have made off the card, which forced Fanatics Collect to do the same.

Thank you. That's where I was confused because read like he was correcting a story or news.

Up next a Topps Now dual auto relic card of Paul Skenes and the 11 year old kid.

Look out for the rare 1/1 card featuring a swatch of the journal entry from the 11 year old kid and a few strands of Skenes moustache!

Lets Gooooooooooooo!

JWBlue 01-25-2025 02:39 AM

It is a conspiracy to believe it is not a conspiracy.

hobocity 01-25-2025 02:56 AM

Reminds me of seeing this video and thinking "I've never pulled a Trout auto myself!" and I was jealous. Feeling jealous again with such a big hit. https://www.reddit.com/link/142xh21/video/1708wjcakh4b1/player

sandyfrank 01-25-2025 03:02 AM

The journal entry is ridiculous, the kid might have wrote it but he was being told by an adult what to write. Shame on Fanatics...

green4407 01-25-2025 03:03 AM
They bought a box and pulled the card. I'm not sure what story you are looking for?

Some feel good story isn't going to boost the value of this card. Sorry, but as a buyer, I don't care how you obtained the card (unless it was stolen). The fact that little Johnny used his hard earned paper route money to buy the box isn't going to make me spend more on the card.
You're not a buyer and you're not going to spend anything on the card.

JWBlue 01-25-2025 03:08 AM

I am 50/50 that journal entry is legit.

A little too many details for an 11 year old.

PuddleMonkey 01-25-2025 03:13 AM

If this thread gave us anything it's hobo's first post after signing up in 2012. Welcome hobocity, there's no turning back now.

“$200? That’s fair for the quality of rookies included.” made me laugh out loud. Paraphrasing.
I have tried to stay out of this debate but the fake ass dear diary crap Topps posted is pure comedy. I'd be more concerned an 11 year ole writes on a 5 yrs old level than what he's going to do with card.
Perhaps the 11 year old who wrote that is a special needs child.

cypher 01-25-2025 03:25 AM

Fanatics pretending to care about kids in the hobby as they jack up the price of hobby boxes catering to breakers is just hilarious.

Gidtheson 01-25-2025 04:02 AM

Y'all are funny, nobody owes you anything.
The Earth is round. lol

I’m excited for the journal pages to be used for cut auto patch cards.

Don't give them any ideas.

-I believe it was a setup.
-It was great marketing for the hobby.
-It was the middle finger to the customers.
-It was not a fair playing field for those chasing.

With that being said, I've said it before and I'll say it again. I don't worry about things I cannot control. Its pointless and adds stress into an already stressful world. These kind of games get played by pretty much all kinds of companies in all walks of life. They are just smarter about it. Fanatics appears to need help with their fraud. But again, even if that is proved, it changes almost nothing. The chances of anyone pulling 1 specific card out of any product is pretty much zero. People play rigged casino and fairground games every day. Life isn't fair, and someone is always trying to take advantage of you. If you let them get to you they win twice. When you are laying on your deathbed looking back over your life the last thing you will care about is if Fanatics packed out the Paul Skenes Debut Patch. If these kind of shenanigans really bother you that much I would leave the hobby. They aren't going to grow moral fibers overnight. It will happen again.

Agree with this.

The story certainly doesn't add up. The journal entries are really odd.

But at the end of the day, unless something more is uncovered, this will likely blow over in a few weeks.

still hoping I have the Jackson Merrill or another debut patch in my hobby box.

You mean someone’s burner account that was set up in 2012.

Not reading through all this dreck.

Did the wood minis get found or what?

100% agree with this; this sums it up pretty well. Haven't posted for a while but this story was such an obvious setup I wanted to come here and see what folks had to say. Kinda shocked that anyone's defending Fanatics and/or any legitimacy of this. Recognizing manipulation doesn't make someone a "conspiracy theorist."

Perhaps more important to point out - as Premium does here - this is nothing new. This will continue happening. If we know the deck is stacked and it bothers us enough, it behooves us to stop collecting, or at least to stop ripping. Fanatics cares about money and nothing else: they will manipulate all narratives and exploit all of us as long as and to the extent that we allow it to happen.

I don’t think a single person here is “defending” Fanatics. Saying you don’t believe or support the wild things being said here doesn’t mean you are defending them. I actually don’t think a single person here believes everything as 100% presented no questions asked.

Me personally? I’m not buying into the wild conspiracy theories, but I do have some questions. I’m a skeptic.
