I’m a dodgers fan. Love that we got him. But curious about how this impacts rest of roster construction. Will we just eat the luxury tax for the next X years????
I guess it depends how much is deferred, but are they going full steve cohen 350-400m payrolls? Who is pitching next year?

Sent from my SM-A546U1 using Tapatalk
I should have said player. |
Seems reckless for a pitcher with two TJ surgeries. Best hope he recovers well.
|
It's more than the judge and cole contracts combined.

He will be paid more per season than 8 teams paid their entire roster this year.
|
First, lol. I mean this contract is horrible. 700 million dollar player whose already had two surgeries, and may just be a DH. I get that he will sale some jerseys but with how much players get hurt these days, just way too much risk based on the rewards.
Guy is a great player but 700 million is just dumb |
I hate that teams can just defer this for decades. It’s such crap.
|
Big lol at anyone questioning if he was even going to break $500M
Seems reckless for a pitcher with two TJ surgeries. Best hope he recovers well.
The other owners have to be saying wtf are you doing dodgers. Now guys asking for 500 for 10 will look reasonable.

Most of the contract will be differed so the Dodgers can continue adding pieces apparently
|
As much as I hate to see Shohei leave, especially up the 5, the Angels dodged a bullet here. 10 year deals never age well and the back half of this one is going to be fugly.
Most of the contract will be differed so the Dodgers can continue adding pieces apparently
So are they paying him like 30m a year for over 20 years? I know they all assume baseball revenues will go up forever but are they reall6 going to have that much dead salary for at least a decade?

Dodgers about to charge a arm, leg, and kidney for tickets.
|
I just want to give a shoutout to my former high school classmate/teammate, Andy Friedman, for doling out the largest contract ever—and hopefully tanking the Dodgers in the process.
(It might take a few years, and they might win a couple World Series titles, but dog gonnit, the Dodgers will eventually collapse!) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |
How many of those 10 years will he actually be a two-way player? $700 million is crazy
|
I haven't kept up on the minute by minute details but I thought as of yesterday it was being reported he was signing with the blue Jay's. What happened?

Pujols 2.0. The Dodgers still lack pitching and will come up short in the postseason. |
Highest payrolls always win it all.
Right? |
Thought for sure he'd join the Giants. Good for him.
My Ohtani card prices just exploded! |

The Angels didn't dodge a bullet. They just took a bullet to their relevancy. Dumpster fire of an organization with no reason to watch. |

Does “up the 5”’ reference a Highway in the area? |
Just fell to my knees in a Tim Hortons

A leverage play, perhaps? Or money. Jays were probably looking mighty tempting at $600 million, but how could he pass up $700 mil? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |
Even with a $70 million AAV, the Dodgers payroll is still only projected to be $227MM
That’s a masterclass in roster building Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
