My 2 cents on the subject...

Emerald should hold their value, especially on highly collected characters.

Orange I'm suspect on, just based on past Metal releases. I think that set will depend on set collectors to keep the values up.

Gold will be the most popular set, in my opinion. Numbered high enough that people will feel like it's obtainable and arguably the best-looking card in the set.

I'd normally laugh at anyone saying that, with PMG's being in the set, but I just can't get over the flaws. The white border issues partially kills their collectability and the nail in the coffin(for me) is the lack of PMG on the front of the cards. I don't think that's me being nitpicky. There hasn't been 1 PMG set that didn't have that noted on the front of the card...going all the way back to the late 90's sports sets through the 2010's Marvel sets and finally to the glut of PMG's over the past 4~ years.

Best of the rest, again IMO, are the Holofoils. I watched a good amount of this get opened and they seemed to have corner issues, so 10's should be a premium. With that said, at 200k~ boxes, there are 2,000~ of each Holofoil. So, far from rare. They look great though and I think if any "base" subset gets collected, it'll be this one.

The worst part of this set is flat out the price. I mentioned it on my first reply to this thread and I think it needs to be hammered home to anyone out there thinking about buying in. Don't. It should have been $99.99 a box and it likely "shouldn't have" sold very well at that price.

I agree with all this. I think gold seismics will be the hit, I think PMGs are a huge swing and miss, and prices of the bad looking white border ones especially will take a hit. The only thing about gold seismics is, like many of the parallels, there is a one for regular [i]and[/i] variant cover gold, so kinda dilutes things. I was actually loosely debating making a run at these, but then I’d have to decide which of those two to even go for (gotta stick to one or the other for consistency).

Personally love the holofoils, and you are right about the possible corner issues on them. I got an Ultron Holofoil from my $300 (d’oh) hobby box. It had a total busted top right corner straight from the pack. This was one of the best hits in a $300 box I opened. I was loosely debating sending that right back to UD for a damage replacement, something I never do, but even just for the principle. But seeing now this card is probably a $5-8 dollar on comc with the flood, not even gonna bother.

It’s true there will be a ton of holofoils, but their one saving grace is not being in blasters. Stuff like Lenticulars, clear cut, any of the cheap white border stuff like canvas…people will almost have to give that stuff away in time.

Another reason for the “slow down” in card pops is that now people are starting to ramp up the combines. So for every card that gets melded the pop diminishes. Also more and more stuff gets transferred to COMC and/or sent home. So tracking COMC card pops can illustrate a bit better how much of this stuff is being moved.

EDIT: when I search COMC for “ ‘92 Masterpieces 2024“ it shows 1,389 cards available

Hmm, makes me wonder if the cards don’t exist. Don’t think I see any on eBay either. Yes they are the two affected by the back swap. But other parallels of them do exist, like blue Traxx, and just have the error.

In the list made upthread, it kinda shaped out that variant cover versions = normal backs, and regular parallels = error. So for example an Adam Warlock blue Traxx will have the error, but the Adam Warlock variant cover blue Traxx is normal back. PMGs are all error. Sure seems like they didn’t make them in these 2 parallels though.

It sure has slowed down. 150k cards. Let’s assume 50k were moved off ePack by now. So maybe about 200k cards opened…out of like 5 million! holy cow

And holy smoke you guys aren’t lying about the PMGs being butt ugly in this set… yuck!

It all depends on the character. Posted this way upthread but when done right it actually looks really nice. One of the nicest looking parallels even.

Yeah… that one looks solid. I think it’s pretty hard for them to retrofit the PMG into an existing card design. The best PMGs in other sets tend to crop and center the character art to provide ample space for the shiny foiling to make the card pop.

Yeah they look sick when done right. Luckily from what I've seen two major characters Spidey and Wolverine don't have the issue and thus look better than 80% of the others.

I do still think they will though as you can pick-up etc. I usually still order retail from Wal-Mart over an LCS even if they are slightly cheaper as I don't live near it and Wal-Mart has free shipping/pick-up so the difference in shipping costs makes it a moot point. I don't buy cases though.

I like a lot of the choices of the Variant covers used. Many it seems UD was going for the busy look, with corner boxes and bunch of taglines and text and all…but kinda works for a trading card in a weird way.

Some that I liked are actually ones that are unexpected, like this Beast with Spider-Man header. There’s also a Blank Panther with Spider-Man header, Doom with Avengers, etc. idk why, but it kinda mixes things and freshens things up.

Box itself looks awesome. Got the classic 92MM marble going. Storm great choice of cover. Hopefully that’s not preliminary and is the real deal. That’ll be going [i]right[/i] into my empty or sealed box collection.

Holifoils are NOT in blasters.

Disagree that variant seismic gold dilutes things. Look at MM variants vs base. They are an extra bonus with different art and highly collectible without diminishing the base.

In terms of the seismic gold, they didn’t really do that with traditional modern MM sets. There weren’t “Epic Purple What if” or “Legendary Orange What If”, and if there were I’d be making the same comments about that. There were what if autos but autos are kinda their own niche thing.

I mean both the regular seismic gold and seismic gold variant cover look great. But do we need essentially both those versions. What I think is if it were *just* one seismic gold set, it would be even more special and desired, just /92. Now as it is, you have potential set collectors, such as myself, having to ask myself which of the two I want to collect. Of course this point could be made about almost anything in the set - do we need X parallel set, doubled up etc. It’s a platinum parallels galore set, I shouldn’t be surprised.

I always like the cover variants - they look even better sometimes with that color match border for certain characters.
