just got caught up, glad I read the whole thread just for this post. :)!
Thanks for the laugh!

Sucks this type of stuff happens. If you are looking to make a quick buck do it another way rather than pulling one over on someone who doesn't know. Happened to me when I was a noob in the collecting world. Hate to see it happen:(
Mike has been doing this for years and has a clean rep on boards and on ebay. Why would a guy, with a clean rep, $$$$ to make in the future, risk all that over a 10-20 dollar auto??? We all know, it takes one screw up, to ruin a name. Why would mike ruin a good thing to make a few bucks?? And take the risk of doing it, right before national, where he is hoping to make some money. Wouldnt he be smart enough to sell the crap under a different name. He told me it was pulled. I have no reason not to believe him at this point. Unitl anyone with absolute proof, or the guy who says he was told by mike speaks, or mike admits to doing it, let this crap die.
Guess you didn't read the whole thread...but in answer to your question see below.
There was a story last year of a VP type of guy who made $200,000 or more a year. He would go into Toys R Us with UPC labels he made that would ring things up at $4 and $5 and place them on $50-$100 Lego items.

He would then sell those items on Ebay. Why did he do it? Because he could.Story for Lego guy
I don't care about any "source". The proof is the feedback left and the current card slabbed. Might be defendable if "I pulled it" wasn't posted by the person in question.
Seriously....not advocating shadiness but saying "I pulled the card" is a dumb move when you in fact did not. What if the original owner of the card still has front/back pics and can (further) prove you did not pull it that way. Looks like a case of someone getting way too comfortable breaking the rules and becoming careless about it. I guess this is the new counterfeiting and unfortunately its somehow clever enough to beat the folks at BGS....who are are arguably running a scam operation of their own if you ask me.

phabphour20 08-02-2013 01:01 PM
Did anyone report this to ebay?
Yes. I did. But more people should. Don't even think they look until there is critical mass... not even sure it will do anything in this case... the card is slabbed forchrissakes.

pickapeppa 08-02-2013 01:01 PM
They graded the card. They didn't certify what was on the card.
If something is fake or altered its on them to note it. Volume isn't an excuse for just grading this a 10 and moving on.
LOL @ Everyone bashing me! I do not deal with baseball cards, I have never dealt with the seller in question, I have no axe to grind.

Here is what we know:

-Social Media Inscriptions are /10, not /500

-He doesnt have a social media auto

-The seller says he pulled the card and got it graded to avoid people "bitching", but never made a thread about this odd and unique pull!

-The handwriting of the inscription appears to be from a different pen and from a source that is different than the prospect

-My source was told this directly by the seller...even if he can come forward and told you it was him and it's what happened, would you even believe him?

How am I the bad guy here?
You pretty much answered your own #@#@#@#@ing question!!

'I do not deal with baseball cards' however I'm going on a Sports Card Forum to comment on a 'Baseball Card' of which I have no background!!

Therefore I am going to comment on something I really don't know about and call out another member based solely on something I was told by another individual!

No does not make you a 'bad guy', but clearly leaves much to question about your motive don't you think?

tonedef2oo8 08-02-2013 01:02 PM

So are the people who swore this guy was stand up also at the nationals? It got quiet in here.

I take it youre still reading the thread, no? Keep going...keep going...

I deal in Basketball and Football cards. I know a lot about CARDS just not baseball/prospects. However, I know how to research as do other people in this thread.

SportCardBuffet 08-02-2013 01:03 PM

Finally caught up and read the whole thread... Not much I can add, it's a shame to lose another member to greed but it was his choice and he deserves whatever is coming his way... Which is likely a ban and a loss in clientele/customers.

If I was at the Nationals I'd pick up your stuff Stamkos, hopefully those who have their cards in his care will get them back without his situation escalating.
Calm down. I am sure Mike will respond when he has a chance. Ever think that Topps made a mistake with this card and Mike did actually pull it? Just give the guy a moment and then form your opinions.

Alright everyone I found it, the UN-INSCRIBED card..........7/500 or Arcia. BOOM

I guess I no longer need to hear more from Mike C. Stupid move kid. Your days here are numbered, if you even care. It would not surprise me at all though if BGS decides not to do business with you ever again. You have brought their own process into question and it certainly will be a mark against them too.

If a card has words scribbled on after release, shouldn't it be like a 2 surface grade?

This would have been an ok post, from some peoples perspective an hour ago, but as of right now you look really really foolish.

Peruse the last few pages or check out the updated OP. A big doozy awaits.

Heh, that's the first place I went when this was proven against Mike. I do too much business with them to allow this to happen.

And they better not ever let Mike grade a single card again.

Oh wow...Will be interesting to see how that plays out.

BoxBreaker72 08-02-2013 01:08 PM

How could BGS slab that card knowing it was supposed to be numbered to /10 in the first place? Also.... Arcia doesn't even have a SM auto in the set!!!! How could they be so stupid?

Someone is willing to pay them $$ to put a card in a case. They want $$. Thus they put it in a case and took his $$.

Seems like the only "motive" was to expose someone who's a fraud. I don't think the OP was going for a Pulitzer here. This is EXACTLY why haiku got away with what he did - if a member is popular and has a lot of posts or a lot of transactions, everyone thinks that member can do no wrong, and anyone who raises concerns about that member gets dogpiled. Potential scammers see this is what happens, so they know how to work the system - post a lot, do a lot of transactions, get a fan club who will back you up, and then BANG - snap the trap shut.

It's been a while since I've been to BOC forums, so I innocently pulled it up on my lunch break and came across this story. Yeah, I'm not getting any work done today...

NeedChapmans 08-02-2013 01:12 PM

Here's what BGS will say (they have not said anything yet)

"We simply grade the quality of the auto on the card, we do not authenticate it's origin (unless you specially ask for authentication). This card has a solid, bold auto with solid, bold writing and thus was given an auto grade of 10. It's unfortunate that a customer has done this, however BGS had no knowledge of this act, and no responsibility to note it"

Then I would go to the grading room, find out who graded that card, and rip into them like there's no tomorrow.

chezball 08-02-2013 01:12 PM

so,did someone report this POS to the mods?Beckett grading should also be notified.
