I have no doubt that some people will think it's not a big deal, it's ok to have a difference of opinion, but show me where I made a single false statement in this thread. I'll be waiting :D

What are the odds BBases is one of the outed card trimmers?

Brandon, is that you? Is the birthday party finally over!?

This. I would not trust anyone who says they have never tried to push back a flipped up corner before sleeving a card. It's a natural action that has been done since the beginning of card collecting. Human hands touching a card should not be considered "altering" a card. Otherwise I have some bad news for everyone who owns a sportscard...

I support this message.
We have no idea what was actually done. All we know is that the corner went from busted to sharp and parts of the edges went from whitish to sharp. Whether it was with your own hands, tools, or someone did it for you it was a major change in the card.
Here you go: this entire paragraph you stated is wrong.

A) we know exactly what he did. He told us. The exact same statement you’re relying on with your attack

B) the corner did not go from busted to sharp

C) the white is still there. It was just an angle. He gave us an updated picture still showing the white.

Next.

Never. And I didn't even know it was a thing to do until the Acuna Heritage deal recently. I've also never sent a card to be graded. Sorry guys, having only been back in this hobby for a couple months since my middle school days I don't know all the tricks of the trade yet!

But we don't know exactly what he did. We know what he told us he did. You are choosing to believe him completely, that's your call
B) the corner did not go from busted to sharp
He said himself the corner was folded over, as it looked in the Ebay pic. A folded over corner isn't busted?
C) the white is still there. It was just an angle. He gave us an updated picture still showing the white.
This sounds like a counter point to it being trimmed. I never said it was trimmed. Some people have said in this thread that it doesn't look trimmed, others said the card looked short. I never said one way or the other

ThoseBackPages 11-16-2019 12:10 AM

sure, "new" to the hobby. Got it.

rngrdanny22 11-16-2019 12:11 AM

Dude. Give it a rest. You were wrong.

You say "we don't know exactly what he did", so you choose the guilty until proven innocent route. I bet you're fun at parties.

It's better not to jump on to conclusions without knows the facts. Unfortunately, it's common here..... Didn't the buyer (nextlevel10) of the card himself admit that the card looked better in person compared to the eBay scans as shown below?
Thanks guys! I didn’t take the card out of the holder but I’d say the corner looks better in person than I thought it would based on the pictures from eBay, but not as good as it looks in the pictures I took. I don’t think it effects the eye appeal of the card too much, but it’s enough that I would definitely disclose it in an eBay listing. As for my plans for it, there is still a decent chance that I hold onto it but I am in early discussions with a few serious potential buyers.
What conclusion did we jump to that was incorrect?
Unfortunate, it's common here..... Didn't the buyer (nextlevel10) of the card himself admit that the card looked better in person compared to the eBay scans as shown below?
And in the same sentence says it looks better in his picture(posted earlier in the thread) than it does in person. Going by what he says, the corner's original damage severity was somewhere between the Ebay scan and his picture.

BBase31’s posting and counter argument style is oddly familiar. Reminds me a lot of our old friend pgisback …

I can’t believe I’ve spent three to four minutes reading the last three pages of this thread..my brain has white corners..although they were there before and are unchanged..

Going by the same logic, may be the card looks better in the picture posted by jjeanius than in person which is why it got a BGS 9 instead of 9.5/10. I have a LeBron PMG red that I bought raw. I thought it would get an overall grade of 6 based on the surface which has peeling (quite common in these cards). You know what grade it got? A gem mint and I was shocked and delighted at the same time.

BGS obviously overgraded the Soto, I don't think anyone cares too much about that. That wasn't the issue

pcptrade 11-16-2019 12:41 AM

On a separate note, I don't know if the buyer sent any additional money to the eBay seller after he sold the card for a huge profit. I hope he didn't because some people here would call it as an act of guilt and not generosity. The norm here is not to send any additional money to the original owner if you make a profit.

True. I thought pgisback was banned from the entire site but he was just banned from the Clemons thread.
