This is the way! This is the most perfect response! As mentioned above, collect what YOU want and dont worry what EVERYONE collects. My signature says it the best! |
100% grading noob here. Ok, maybe 90+%. I can count my submissions on one hand.
I lucked into some very nice 1975 Topps football cards. All the name rookies were basically there... Theismann, Pearson, Fouts, Swann, Bleier, etc. plus some other stars like Bradshaw, Staubach, etc. Going to take another close look at them and hopefully send some in. Centering is the main issue. Edges and corners are almost all mint. Is SGC my best bet? I'm not looking for the fastest turn time... mostly reasonable cost and trusted grading + resale longevity. Thanks for any input. |

I actually like SGC I have many that I purchased(I do not send in to them) but no matter what anyone else says its really not close...Send them to PSA

Thanks for the advice guys. Gotta admit the SGC football special is pretty tempting... maybe I'll find a trustworthy PSA bulk service.

PCSportscards is the largest PSA Group submitter and very reputable. |
TBH with SGC being a private company, I can't wait to laugh my ass off if Fanatics buys them. You think Fanatics/Topps brick and mortar LCS guidelines, breaking, and allocation system is dystopian, better hope your lucky stars they don't buy a TPG. Imagine them saying, "sure you can get Bowman and Topps Chrome for all our sports licenses now, not just baseball, but you have to be a SGC only submitter, only promote SGC etc. Also, now that we own PWCC you can only sell Raw or SGC graded cards on the platform, or something like only 1% fee's selling SGC, but 15% for PSA. You want to be approved to break on Fanatics live? have to a SGC submitter, only."

The CEO of Fanatics is already an investor in CSG. |

I think its only a matter of time before Fanatics ventures into the grading card world. with that being said, do you guys think that maybe now is time to go with CSG for graded cards instead of PSA, SGC or beckett? |

But it's easier to buy a Private company and take away competition. |
PSA new quick service....
With the term "eye appeal" being used so much in this hobby, why is it that the cheapest looking slabs sell for the most amount of money? If you use the term "eye appeal" and have a display case full of PSA slabs, I can't take you seriously. Early 50s and pre-war cards are artwork. SGC slabs frame them as such and compliment their beauty. PSA slabs look cheap and don't do these cards any justice.
I think both PSA/SGC slabs have positives and negatives for vintage. The SGC slabs do frame nicely, but the plastic is not as good and flimsy. If I want to crack a SGC slab, I can do it in my hands with no tools. It is really a preference and I wouldn't say PSA slabs look cheap. Well, both PSA/SGC slabs look cheap compared to CSG (now CGC) slabs if they don't use the stupid plastic sleeve. Vintage do look nice in SGC slabs, but ultra-modern looks pretty bad in my opinion. The dull black matte textured inserts really clash with the shiny chrome cards. |
Is there no SGC running order thread?

Probably no need for one, SGC usually has your cards back to you in 7-10 days. |

They also don't really have a breakdown of the process map. It's just received, post grading shipped. And yeah, it all happens quick. |
Sent out my first ever SGC order today. 20 card order of 50's and 60's baseball with a couple of 1933 Goudey mixed in. Looking forward to getting these back in a couple of weeks.

You'll probably get your cards back in-hand from SGC before they would have been even entered into the system at PSA. |

Interesting you say that. I also have an order that will be arriving at PSA tomorrow for the 90's+ special. It will be interesting to see what stage that order is when I get my cards back from SGC. I don't mind using PSA for modern cards. But the turnaround for vintage at PSA is brutal. |

Can confirm. It is not fast. I keep checking the status of this one every couple of days, even though I think they send emails when the status changes (?) Still 3 weeks from the target date, based on the 65 business day estimate :coffee:
Order Type: Value (1979-Older) ($25) ($499) # of Cards: 3 Shipped: 4/21/2023 Delivered: 4/22/2023 (officially 'delivered' 4/24. not yet appearing at PSA's 'find my package'. 4/25 now it shows dlvd at PSA site) Arrived: 4/25/2023 Research & ID: 4/27/2023 ("Entered") Grading: 5/2/2023 (first view scans in cardsaver) Assembly: QA1: QA2: Shipped: 65 Business Days: July 31
|

3 months for vintage is fast. Most of us are seeing 6 months right now. PSA is a total failure as we try to hang in there during this declining market. |

PSA only cares about Pokémon and Ultra Modern where they can grade the cards in 5 seconds. A lot easier than grading vintage where grades can vary between 1 and 9 instead of 99% of the cards being 9/10's. The market is not really declining. It is declining for graded cards. Raw cards have been stable for awhile now, but every card needs to be graded for $15 to $20, so they can be sold for $10. Graded cards still have a decline to go before they will stabilize, but raw cards for the non ultra-modern category have been stabilized for a long time. You can buy raw Kobe Bryant rookies between $15 to $20, and it has been this way for awhile. The cards in PSA 9/10 slabs have been in free fall for awhile since they were artificial scarce inside the slab. They will continue to fall because there are so many nice raw cards still available. The cards people are grading at $15 to $20, even vintage, at SGC just make me shake my head. I am continuing to buy nice graded cards at a discount and buying tons of raw vintage. Raw cards will continue to decline and graded cards will continue to increase in population. |
