No man, my bad. I wasnt trying to be a smart ass. My apologies to you. I truly do like your videos. If you really want my opinion, i think this is a $2k-$3k card tops! Dont see how someone would buy that for $5k but then again, everything happening in the hobby right now defies logic, which is why i made the ‘what do i know’ comment. Again, my apologies that you took it the wrong way.
US300 golds, with a print run of 2018, are selling in this range in PSA 10 (pop 162). You think a gold refractor with a print run of 50 should be the same price in BGS 10 (pop 2)? Remember that Soto has fewer RC and RC parallel releases than other stars like Acuna and Tatis. No Sapphire. No Heritage Action. No Stadium Club. I'm surprised the HMT55 refractors are so low, to be honest--especially the numbered color. Disclosure: I am not the buyer nor the seller in the transaction above, but I do own some HMT55 numbered color. |

And look, I can make guess you have hypotheses like: if only we had more $$ in baseball, then we could make more $$ flipping. I think a few cautions: 1) in a constrained market (limited supply), like cards, profits tend to aggregate to control points when demand exceeds supply (eg topps, distributors, breakers, auction/consigners) and the end buyers tend to just end up with lower “consumer surplus” 2) on a pure returns basis, it doesn’t increase ROI for individual card buyers that come in AFTER the change in demand (yes, if you owned an asset before, that is great, but that is a one time benefit)... price levels are higher, but the actual return multiples stay the same (cards now start at $10 that once started at $1, but the price they get to is still just a multiple of 2x on that base) 3) ironically, it may depress ROI, as the number of possible buyers declines, and thus creates much more volatility in realized sales prices (fewer buyers tend to increase price dispersion, with the average sale price actually falling) as prices of a particular player rises (number of possible buyers declines with price due to practical reason: fewer people have the money required) If you like making the most $$ in the LONG TERM (not the hold period, but the period you want to participate in a market), you should more likely desire stability and steady growth, as opposed to discontinuous changes that will often create overhang in markets, and eventual crashes.
I'm curious why the 2018 3D is still comparatively cheap when considering its US300/HMT55 counterparts. Just 33 PSA 10's compared to 66 TCU refractor PSA 10's yet the TCU refractor sells for twice what the 3D does. In full disclosure I own a PSA 10 3D and of all mid-level the parallels I've owned (Gold, refractor, rainbow foil, pink ref) the 3D is by far and away the better looking.
Seems to me that Topps On Demand 3D is a "you have to explain what it is" kind of card--a niche release--as opposed to Flagship and Chrome, which are mainstream releases with a long history in the hobby. Chrome base refractors, in particular, are the closest thing Topps has to Prizm Silver/Optic Holo, which is all the rage right now across all sports. Also, 3D owners in this thread have reported that the attractiveness of the 3D is hard to capture in photos. I would have to agree, considering how blah it looks in all the photos I've seen, when folks are also saying it's the nicest looking release in hand. In this age of mostly online sales, that makes it more difficult for this card to overtake more traditionally popular releases. But with that said, the card has a lot of fans in this thread. So it probably has a pretty good future. |

Print run it beats the gold and rainbow but it isn’t true flagship released. I feel it’s more for the serious player collector as flippers will choose the ladder... The Albies was terrible looking in hand and did nothing for me at all. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Most people can’t afford one $2000 card but it’s easy to pick up 10 $200 cards over time. It’s the EXACT reason why Berkshire Hathaway created B shares. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
