I think people need to really read the terms of the "insurance" as well. I have been saying it for a while that the only real benefit if the allowing to be a TRS using PWE shipping. Even with the insurance I don't think its going to change much how it works the terms are pretty vague when you read them all. I honetly think you should be prepared just like for any other PWE shipment thats why I did not change my practices over 10.00 I upgrade to bubble mailer at my expense.
I expect the loss, but is worth trying to see if I get a refund from them. Think the order was like $5, so nothing earth shattering. On another noted, the first buyer received his card 2 days after it showed delivered, so I guess it is showing delivered, despite still being in the shipping center.

Question on the standard envelope --

are you allowed/able to print two labels for the same order?

I have a 7-card order to package up tomorrow. My personal limit for a PWE is 6 cards (2 stacks of three with toploader/team bag/cereal box cardboard), and prior to this I would've shipped this order out with 2 separate PWE's, 4 cards in one and 3 in the other.

I'd like to do the same with the Standard Envelope, just wondering if it allows you to print two labels. My other option would be to send 6 in the standard envelope and send the other card in a PWE with a regular stamp.

Thanks!

Wolf8MeVillie 02-04-2021 03:10 AM

I don't see why you can't split orders, as long as they make it. I did this on a few orders, testing the water. As long as the buyer is honest, there should be no problem. I also did a few 5-7, thin cards, packages, at the $0.71 rate to see how they fair. Still using Card Saver I to make the envelope more aerodynamic going into the machine. Watching the sorting machines on YouTube is entertaining.

shrevecity 02-04-2021 07:04 AM

Just would save time confusion and other possible issues just to upgrade to a bubble mailer and do it that way. For me anything over 4 cards is always upgraded.

If one gets lost and other arrives you could have a big headache trying to straighten it out especially if Ebay is involved and you are in MP the refund process through MP can be a little confusing at times if not careful.

I haven't sold anything using these envelopes but I am planning to do it, so I'm trying to visualize these labels on an envelope. Does anyone have a picture of one of these labels on an envelope? Or can you tell me what the dimensions are of the printed area from the upper left of the return address all the way down to the lower right of the printed area? I'm trying to figure out how to do this and I don't know what size the printed area of the labels is. Thanks.

Yea, I accidentally sent a buyer the wrong card and printed another for replacement just fine

I print at 70% cut and tape to standard envelope. I posted a photo last week of it. So far no issues with my method

Here is how mine look when printed....I can get 2 on a regular 8 1/2" x 11" piece of plain white copy paper when I reduce to 75%:

And here is how it looks trimmed down and placed onto a standard letter sized plain white security envelope:

Additional Shipping Charges Incurred at USPS

I'm a vintage card collector who got back into the hobby a few years ago. Avid reader of Blowout; first time poster.

Last weekend, I updated around 40 listings to reflect the eBay Standard Envelope program. Also last weekend, I received a box of 100 6” x 8” Paperboard Mailjacket Envelopes in the mail, which are the ones that eBay recommended for the program.

Within a day, I got orders for a single card, 6-card lot, and 8-card lot. Postage charged by eBay was 71 cents for the single card and 91 cents each for the lots. I packaged the cards in eBay Mailjacket Envelopes with no extra cardboard protection. The envelope thicknesses was all less than a quarter inch.

I brought the cards in to my local post office for shipment and stood in line. I didn't want to take a chance on the USPS not scanning my shipments. This has been the norm during the pandemic whenever I've dropped off cards in their blue box or mail slot inside the building.

After waiting a half-hour in line, I was told that shipping charges for each envelope was $4.15, and that was without tracking! I went to another post office, and they told me the same thing. They also said that the envelopes must be bendable. I realize that eBay's program mentions this, and I was skeptical as to how this will work for sports cards.

I paid the shipping difference then complained to eBay. They gave me a coupon and said they'll investigate the issue (not holding my breath). They said I can return the Mailjacket Envelopes for a full refund, even though I've used three.

I'm debating on whether to 1) keep offering eBay Standard Envelope shipping but printing the labels on a PWE like JeffG1954 has shown (possibly with a thin cardboard backer) or 2) switching all of my applicable listings back and using PWEs with a combination of Forever and non-machinable stamps.

Sorry for the long first post and interested in your thoughts. Hopefully, someone can learn from my nightmare.

Sonny

Don't use cardboard at all toploader with a sheept of paper or something similar wrpaaed around them has been proven to work time and time again. And these do not scan at the counter, their scanners do not read them so you just might as well put them in the blue box.

gatorredsox 02-04-2021 08:54 PM

I mailed out one card in a PWE placed it in the click and ship box at the post office counter on Feb 2 at 9am. It finally showed up as accepted at 1:00am Feb 4. That is the status under eBay track package. When I go to the USPS website and try and track it, shows not found. hmmm

Thanks for the tip. Whether I've shipped with a bubble mailer or PWE, I've always included a piece of cardboard for rigidity--something that a piece of paper does not provide.

If I end up giving up on the Standard Envelope program, I'll try using non-machinable stamps with PWEs. I've seen others have success with this method described by WaxPackHero.

I'm still not sure if I got tracking at $4.15. The USPS clerk told me I wouldn't get it, and I'm confused about how this is supposed to work. If the USPS's scanners do not read the QR code, how does tracking with the Standard Envelope program work?

They do not read on the USPS website. You have to go here. www.trackmyshipment.co. This is the method Mercari has used for a few years now.

The sorting machines that the envelopes run through scan them and that is what is used to update eBay.

The scanners in the processing centers read that long barcode that prints on them that transmits to the site I pointed out earlier that is how they are tracked. Now how they get a delivery scan I dunno but they do.

I bought the same paperboard envelopes, called eBay twice and both reps confirmed that they qualify for eBay Standard Envelope. I've mailed 3 of them so far and waiting to see if they get returned or not. I even messaged one of the buyers to let them know that it may get returned (in which case i would just send First class). The requirements dont specifically say you cant use them. It just says nothing too rigid. These are firm but definitely bendable.

ok... Can I ask you guys something...
I hate getting cards in PWE.. Just me..
But what I hate even more is sellers that are going to ship like this & dont have anything in description..
At least give buyers option of passing on this method of shipping.

So a seller has $1 shipping (Yes, I dont assume its a PWE)

Just put in description - Low $ cards will be sent in PWE

But 80% of the time there is nothing.
Just saying...
Thx.

We have not opted into it, but I think if there is a question by the buyer in this case they should reach out and ask.

I was thinking of buying those. Theres something that says no cardboard packages but I dont know if that includes envelopes.

I dont think theyll get returned. Perhaps they just charge you $4-5 for each instead of the lower rate.

Problem is Ebay does not have final say in it we have already seen one seller here report all his got returned to him for being too rigid. Its the USPS workers that end up having final say they have that with any. There are some who will tell you a card in a card saver in a PWE is too rigid. The rigid part is what is subjective and all it takes is a worker some where along the line somewhere to decide they are too rigid. That is a risk with any PWE. I have had a bubble mailer upgraded to priority before because a worker deemed it too narrow to qualify for first class parcel so because it had tracking it was required to go priority. That is when I learned the packing peanut trick on bubble mailers.

already heard one report where they got returned and another where they were told it would be 4.00 more to use them. Rigid is too subjective. A plain paper envelope works perfectly with very little damage issue.
