All he can get is his $177 back. If he wants a $500K card, he'll have to pay a bit closer to $500K.
Unfortunately, the reality of it is, that anyone can so anybody for anything at anytime. There are some *VERY* screwy judges out there, and some *VERY* screwy lawyers, which can make things a massive nightmare for the seller. The seller could find him in the unenviable spot of having to decide to represent himself and potentially lose a frivolous case, or lawyer up and have it end up costing an arm and a leg. I hate it, but that is how things turn out sometimes. Heck, even if he doesn't get his $177 back, he could cause thousands of dollars of damage to the seller's pocketbook just for having to get an attorney. I *REALLY* hope that isn't what happens here, though.
I just read part of the latest drama on this on facebook, and I don't like where this is turning. He is trying to differentiate between a reprint and a counterfeit. This, to me, smells of a loose canon posturing to lay down some sort of a lawsuit. :( I sure hope I am wrong here. Really, I hope that this is not what he is trying to do. If it is one thing I cannot stand is someone being a coward and using the legal system to get something for nothing at the expense of someone else.
The ebay listing he bought it from said it was a reprint. How could he claim its a counterfeit?

The thing that gives me shivers is that this guy is starting to sound like a carbon copy of someone I used to know who was sue happy ... that would cause problems all over the place for people over NOTHING. Anyway, hopefully nothing comes of this.

But when all is said and done, I wonder what happens if it ends up being real ... how many people will be FOR him ... and how many will hate him.

It's not likely with this guy. He's a barky doggy but when it comes time to lawyer up and go to court, he'll back out. The threat of frivolous cases is highly overstated.

Instead, he'll go crying to Action News Team for help.

I sure hope this is the case! I have seen how it has happened the other way around with what I would say is this guy's twin. That is what concerns me.

It's not even a question. It is not real. Not because he paid $177, not because the seller said it was a reprint, not because people are "jealous." Rather, because the photos clearly show telltale signs of it being a reprint.

It's like if I claimed to be Ken Griffey Jr. What if it were true? Who cares? It isn't true.

Until someone authenticates it, i believe you ARE Ken Griffey Jr.

The seller listed the item correctly as a reprint in the auction. What claim does Mars have?

mouschi 09-24-2014 08:05 AM

someone on his fb page said something about the original seller gluing a front reprint of a wagner to the back of a t206. does anyone have a link to the listing that mentions this?

tonedef2oo8 09-24-2014 08:18 AM

The one simple question he WILL NOT ANSWER is this.

If according to him people can not tell if the item is real through a picture online how did he determine it was real when he bid? Also one of his experts also deemed it real through just a picture (the mystery California expert who offered $50,000) how did they do it?

sfguy115 09-24-2014 08:40 AM

This is definitely a "get rich quick" scheme. My guess is that the guy has a history of trying to find easy ways to make money or come into money. He has probably looked into a lot of work from home sites, or jobs that in order to make money you have to recruit a few members and have them recruit. I'm sure he's always going to auctions, garage sales, and ebay to find rare items that he can buy super cheap and make thousands of dollars. He knows he bought a fake and I definitely agree that he's banking on some sympathy money or publicity. :coffee:

xplainer 09-24-2014 10:00 AM

This is related, but a little off track. I can't believe people are buying this crap. It clearly states REPRINT in the title and listing!

So, I can go home, pull out all the reprint Wagners, round the edges, crease them up good and spit some tobacco juice on them. Then people will give me $60 + for it?

I can't understand it. Might do a test this weekend on one.
Jason Mars I understand your skepticism... I did loose my job to back issues and surgery....I did say I was out of work but lost my job because of it and yes it is being graded as we speak by one of top graders....I am not a con man I am a dovot christian and the Gehrig was a take a chance card that I didn't have anyone look at.....I have had 4 of 5 experts look at Wagner and because of card stock old printing there reccomendation was sughenic and the 5 the one didn't know...trust It would be one eBay if I was trying to pass it off...this is not a card that gets authenticated or graded in an hour it takes time...trust me I want an snser now but they can give me one right now....Ihonestly ewould have been skeptical to by photos but if seen card....its not modern printing print card expert verified...card stock is vintage.....there is a lot to this card...as soon as results come back I will surely let everyone know and by no means am I trying to pawn it off

Here's one of his facebook replies to dr_mccarthy. I had to backtrack a few times to get through it all.
This gave me a migraine...

You know you're not good at a job when they hire a back injury to replace you. Just saying... Oh, and God Bless

It won't...we all know it won't...he knows it won't. You seem to think that there is still an outside 1 in a billion chance this could be real and not part of some scam. The only question is what exactly his end game will be. Lawsuit? Bag for charity? We'll find out sooner or later.

The one thing that is certain is that is not the real deal.

That one in a billion chance in my mind left when I heard that someone said the seller actually said that he takes fake fronts and puts them on real backs. At this point, I'm just going to grab my popcorn and wait until friday!

Well then, I welcome you to the club of non-believers! :)!

MiamiDolfan007 09-24-2014 02:49 PM

What's interesting is that the results may never be announced to the public. Jason says on his page that they will be available on Friday and the news channel will do the follow-up story, but color me skeptical when the inevitable occurs.

mouschi 09-24-2014 02:59 PM

i'd still love to see the listing where the seller of the wagner says that he takes the backs of old t206's and glues a reprint front

callou2131 09-24-2014 03:48 PM

That is not that uncommon. The gluing of the real jacks from commons. You may never own the real deal, but I wouldnt mind a really good reprint in my collection. I wouldn'tpay 170 for ot though

tonedef2oo8 09-24-2014 05:38 PM

Earlier in the topic I posted a video of 2 dopes who refuse to believe theirs is fake. He sees to be copying their story word for word. I wonder if this was part of his research.

BOOOOOO!!! I think he is gone. Does this mean we will not hear anything else about it? Jeesh. That's not fair. This is like watching a really good show for a season, only to find out it got cancelled.

He deactivated it. I friend requested him last week and he accepted, and now he shows up in my friends as deactivated :(
