Semantics man, let it be. I think Grade will do fine in general.
I've enjoyed the Top Shot site thus far so there is value in that. The last 6 packs I opened did suck. Also, there were 4000 packs available as of 20 minutes ago and now down under 2000. I'm guessing they'll be sold out of this wave after an hour.
It’s just the pumping nature and the false promises made. It was my same beef in the P2020 thread. Tons of dudes pumping that and lying about their sales for really no reason other than to catch the other sucker. Again, still profit (or not, he has more into it than $1800 as you can also chart his buys), but what would be the motivation to lie about it on a message board? Seems silly. The swings in sale prices should be enough to scare people who value $ to stay away, but it is what it is. |

You do realize that people sell cards and rebuy right? So i can buy a Zion for $280 but it doesnt mean i loaded my account with another $280. JUST MAYBE, MAYBE i might have bought a pack for $9, sold a card from that pack for $240 and sold a bunch of $1 cards to buy another card for $280 and now that card is valued at $480? rinse and repeat for the last week? Please value all the graded cards sitting on my counter since you can value everything. Thanks again.. everytime you post my port goes up.
I don't think this is P2020 just because supply actually has a cap. Is supply greater than demand? Currently yes it is, or at least appears that way through their sales. That's not to say they haven't had sales, or that people haven't been profitable, but for long term growth and to be a viable model you'd have to turn over inventory and that's just not happening at this juncture. The developer is turning over inventory though, as they're sold out of the packs. The key will be can you build a digital community that will want to buy and sell gifs? I don't think you can, but who knows? I think the platform they've developed is worth the money, but not the product itself. The platform with other uses is extremely cool. If you're into digital cards, Panini offers them for free in the Dunk app. It's also interactive and licensed.
In a way, these are print to order. It's just the actual creators that are adjusting the print runs according to release day sales...not the exact sales numbers themselves. Both ecosystems rely on finalized PR's to drive secondary market sales. I don't see any essential difference so long as they have the ability to change numbers as they see fit. Again, get that money, playbois. But I would recommend following the blueprint of selling as much as you can for profit to cover your initial costs. Because you never know when the rug can be pulled from underneath you. The fact it seems nobody has yet to actually cash out raises my eyebrows. Profit is not profit until it's in-hand. |

And the demand definitely seems to be there for now. Like always, I want everybody to make a plethora. Just don’t lie is all. Especially when it’s easy to see. The technology on the site is 2nd to none. I wish the makers of the site could somehow incorporate that into physical cards. The platform is absolutely amazing. |
Both ecosystems rely on finalized PR's to drive secondary market sales.
I don't see any essential difference so long as they have the ability to change numbers as they see fit.
Excellent take. The inevitable increase in PR's, in turn, increase the transactions via third-party processor exponentially, and the volumetric increase of secondary market participants might have a similar effect as other models. Example: ePack/COMC and the "race to the bottom" for physical cards or achievement prices months after their original releases have crested the secondary wave. But this platform has no physical conversion option. LaMelo isn't signing my TopShot. And my digital equivalent of an autograph (say, a retweet or follow on social media platforms) doesn't (yet) translate into monetary value. In fact, it'd probably cost me something for that to happen. It would have been smarter to go the route of enmeshed partnership with physical media. Maybe that's in the works or they can contract with more athletes to do that without conflicting with the NBPA, but I remain skeptical about its long-term viability. |

However, the company behind this is Vancouver, CN based Dapper Labs which has generated quite a bit of buzz and they do have legit street cred in the technology and blockchain world. They developed Cyrptokitties or some type of virtual cat that was quite popular. This Top Shot venture has the backing of a number of NBA players including Aaron Gordon, Spencer Dinwiddie, etc, and seems to be built on the Flow blockchain. Check out this article from August on Bloomberg as it mentions these guys have backing from some major players in the tech VC world such as Samsung NEXT and Andreessen Horowitz. Dapper also has partnerships coming soon with Warner Music (this same Top Shot idea for music videos, concerts?...very interesting), the UFC, and Dr. Seuss. The only person lying is the person you see in the mirror. Remember, with NBAtopshot. Everything is recorded. Block Chain. I can prove you are 100% lying. I am being nice right now and letting you talk yourself deeper in the hole. You can stop digging yourself deeper and leave now or dig deep and lose all credibility in front of all your peers here. C'mon.:doh::doh: I posted on the first page of this thread saying I don't get it but to each their own. I'm posting again to say, I don't get it, but to each their own...AND that I really feel like I just wasted 20 minutes reading the whole thread. I don't often feel like it's a waste reading new information, but I truly feel this was a total time suck. Looks like some people have made some good money. Good for you :). Like always, with things I don't understand, I'm 100% risk adverse. It has served me well for 42 years. Hopefully people can cash out before the inevitable happens. Haha. GL |

I think your point about demand increasing(prices shooting up) and his point about confidence and risk aversion are both valid. Moving this along...
I like the idea of dipping into the archives here. Can you imagine some of the classic historic moments... Also, do we think the community would embrace a clip from someone's rookie year as their rookie moment? |

I have lost money on cards, investements, food, whatever, Losing money is losing money. People lose money everyday on tangible and non tangible items and investments. the bottom line still looks the same.:)! This type of risk is not for everyone. Some people like to buy $1000 blasters of prizm and hold $20 of real cardboard after they break the blaster. i have $1000's of 2020 sets, blasters, mega that i bought a MSRP sitting in storage. $1000 in grading limbo. Everything can be a lose. nothing is guaranteed. |

I totally understand the other side, i was there when this thread started. But he is the one lying and spinning numbers without even understanding the platform. Anyone here can trace my first pack purchase 10days ago. my first pruchase 8 days ago. I had no clue what i was doing, buying, selling or getting into. Like i said, it is more luck and timing than skill at the beginning. Sidenote: there is a small pull back at the moment. |

The sales history for some of these cards don't make any sense.
You will have a bunch of sales for x dollars and, in the same time frame, another sell at 3x. Nothing special about the card that went for much more. I bought a couple of packs and a cheap lebron moment just so I can track this product more closely. I think there will be a short term pop for sure, as a lot of people trying to get into cards are getting excited about "blockchain" and "crypto" being thrown around. Not exactly sure why those terms are important for this product. The product itself is not that much different than what you can get on other virtual card products like Panini Dunk. What separates this product from something like panini dunk or other virtual card products is the ease of buying/selling without using a third party site like ebay. This is why the numbers are so crazy right now. But without a true end user (i.e. someone that actually enjoys the moments for what they are rather than a commodity), I question the long term viability of this product. Once this product has Shake Milton I will completely change my mind. |
