Does anyone know the breakdown of how the 2009 NT notable nicknames set was organized? I’ve seen listings that have Kobe’s card described as /99 and also /35, but I can’t seem to find a definitive checklist. Did he have two different versions?

I know in the 2012 NT version these were /49, and he signed with both black mamba and vino. Is there a known pecking order amongst the different years and versions of Kobe’s notable nicknames cards?

Yes, two different inscriptions:
/99 is inscribed "Black Mamba"
/35 is inscribed "MVP"

Ah, got it thank you...i guess the “mvp” is rarer, but i personally prefer the “black mamba” inscription. These seem like they go for ridiculous (in a good way) amounts when they’re sold, which doesn’t seem to be very often.

The /35 "MVP" inscription version is not inserted in packs/boxes, only the /99 "Black Mamba"/"Blk Mamba" is.

The /35 version is used for high-end card replacement back then.

I myself don't have the link, but a few experienced collectors here did confirm this years ago.

Also, on the Panini official site, the checklist only includes the /99 "Black Mamba"/"Blk Mamba" version.

In taking a re-look at the series checklists of notable nicknames signees through the years (at least, the ones i could find), it’s pretty interesting how limited the kobe ones are. Looks like it’s really only 2009 and 2012, and the 2012 issue is relatively small. I had previously figured he did this every year, but that’s not the case.

Wanted to share the only Kobe auto I own and a base card I recently discovered.

I collected in the 90’s and then started back around 2014 so I never really knew much about 2000’s sets/cards. Saw the refractor of this card in a random youtube video and instantly fell in love. Took me a while just to figure out what year and set this was. The refractor is /25 so I have no chance of ever getting one. Reminds me of the color blast.

2003-04 Topps Pristine base.

Yeah, was going for the Planet Metal Universe PSA 10. Had my budget at $1800 (last one sold for $1600) and it went to $2600:eek:



Thinking of doing a very risky move.



I have a BGS 9.5 Zion Select Courtside Silver (Pop 8) which I want to hold because of it’s massive potential, thinking of trading it for a BGS 9.5 Kobe Silver Prizms, iconic set and also has a limited print run.


Would you guys do this trade?

The Zion has more potential. If you believe in his health long term, that's the play, value-wise.

I'm interested to see if they all get paid. I been picking up some of Kobe in the last few weeks as I just decided to get back into the hobby again recently. Back in the day, all I did was bust wax and sell off my pulls as I had an addiction and eventually got into some financial trouble. Now I'm just going to buy singles and collect this time around. It would've been nice if I re-started a year ago but whatever, at least I think long term value wise, Kobe stuff has nowhere to go but up. Btw among the flurry of crazy Kobe prices last night I did end up picking this up. Had to get something during the 5% Ebay Bucks promo.

trust me, i've been watching and hoping some of the items are relisted due to non paying bidders and they never pop anymore. and this is all under a span of 1-2 months.

Looks like prices are going crazy again tonight. Tried bidding on some autos and older inserts to see if I can get lucky but the ending prices are crazy on most of them. All the Kobe autos I paid between $500 to $1k a month ago would ended between $800 to $1.5k tonight looking at the trend.

2009 TC gem got $1650. Amazing stuff.

Picked up a few PSA 9 Topps Kobe RC's the other night, seems the 10's have a huge price gap, speculative pick up to see if they close gap at all, and they are awesome cards.

I know what you guys are experiencing. I picked up
a Kobe first year Kaboom a couple of weeks ago and
the very next day the same exact one sold for 600.00
higher.

Also some of his 2005 Gold or Blue refractor cards
have jumped in price considerably. Last night a gold refractor
numbered to /999 PSA 10 sold for 1,625. Wow!

One of his 1996 TC RC sold for over 10,000 last night.
Two more up for auctions by Shillstein so stand by
