I saw these sources while fact-checking myself. Now look at primetime television viewership (also kind of hard to verify) and you'll see what I'm talking about. (from 2018)
https://www.forbes.com/sites/maurybrown/2018/10/04/2018-mlb-regional-tv-ratings-in-primetime-shows-continued-strong-popularity/#1819628b6257 Look at the second column (HH) and tell me what you see.
One caution: Atlanta's home markets that cable TV penetration runs 30-55%, whereas in NY Yankees home market that cable TV penetration runs in the 80-90% range... The Forbes data source is viewership on cable networks... with the Yankees leading by 2x prime time cable TV viewership... but they also have 2x the number of cable TV connections. You can see cable penetration by MSA here: https://fusiontables.google.com/DataSource?docid=1P5vZBmcbBXK70lzM0YrS6jxNzRinbWcAjBc-Tdo |
You realize in Atlanta's home markets that cable TV penetration runs 30-55%, whereas in NY Yankees home market that cable TV penetration runs in the 80-90% range?
Thus of course the stats you show will have the Yankees leading by 2x prime time cable TV viewership... they have 2X the number of cable TV connections. You can see cable penetration by MSA here: https://fusiontables.google.com/DataSource?docid=1P5vZBmcbBXK70lzM0YrS6jxNzRinbWcAjBc-Tdo
That's the entire point. |
That's the entire point.
that doesn't mean 2x the fans, that just means 2x the people watching over cable TV... all the other sources suggest about even fan bases |
Dude, you seem to be arguing just to argue. This has nothing to do with Atlanta's fan-base. Let me re-state my original claim in another way:
It's surprising to me that with the size of the Yankees fan-base that Gleyber Torres isn't more of a hobby-star. I'm not really trying to go into all of this re Torres. I think some Atlanta fans wanted to puff their chest a little but that's a completely separate thing....you have a very nice fan base. It's HUGE. We good? |

Get rid of Judge, Stanton, etc. and Gleyber might be higher up the ranks. |

I do like a good debate I don't know... somehow Judge still captures the local attention, it seems... and then there is a ton of hype for DJ (and all the folks who voted him 1st half MVP). I kind of wonder if Gleyber is getting the Xander treatment... because Xander has so many other popular players on the Red Sox, he doesn't break out as the singular focus. And honestly, Gleyber's cards still carry a premium to Devers, so he has that going for him. |
BTW not sure if you saw this nice "Gleyber is the last man standing" article on Fangraphs: https://blogs.fangraphs.com/gleyber-torres-is-the-yankees-last-man-standing/
They like him, and put him two higher than Devers on their 2019 trade value analysis a couple weeks back: https://blogs.fangraphs.com/2019-trade-value-11-to-20/ |
Gleyb-ruths cards have been slowly climbing, I think he has huge hobby upside. As buyers we should seize the moment.
Most people that aren't from the Southeastern area of the US do not realize how big the Braves fan base actually is. I'm sure if I lived up north or out west I wouldn't think it was very big either.
Very true. Just like it would be hard to explain to someone from that same area how popular college football is down here. I live in Cardinal country but if there are people here that aren't Cardinal fans....they're Braves fans. |
Going through my 2018 TU cards tonight I found these two SSP’s/
Another HR. Top of the food chain. Top of the thread list!
FFFFIIIIRRRRRRRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Haha! It is funny... feels like you could use the BO board thread stack as a way to tell how hot and popular particular players are at any one time ;) |
Another one.
Leading the AL in HRs for a middle infielder. |
BOOM!

Just keep stacking those Update and Update Chromes. The boom is coming, we just need to be patient.

Pulled this little guy out of a single hobby box of Update earlier this week. Thought you all might like it here.
