I have been in the hobby for about 35 years. I went to my first national in 1993 (while I was still in high school). I am not sure why I have to give you my resume to have a point about something. I personally abhor social media and would not want to do anything personally to promote this card for sale. I would also not want to put my young son in the crosshairs or who knows what just to get some publicity. I know the card sells itself (if I was going to sell it). I really don't get why cards are only pulled now if they are pulled on camera. Clearly, every big card is not going to be filmed being opened. Are we going to question them all?
very glad to hear that!
since you are not on Social Media, i can see your point of view on this.

After reading 12 pages of this thread, I thought I would find something interesting or relevant.

My bad.

You should go read the Topps Project 2020 thread. It's a little bigger than this one and probably just as boring.
I mean ordinary ole me hit a #'d to 25 auto relic redemption from the Ohtani 50/50 set buying just 5 boxes total, which while not a DB card, is still a pretty huge hit. And I got the box from a 3rd party seller to boot.

Topps has no incentive "rigging" boxes to make sure certain influencers/breakers get the big hits. If the truth came out that is the case, it would turn off lots of casual collectors from buying sealed boxes. Plus Topps recently got audited and the auditor found cards were indeed packaged randomly.

Yeah I hear you. But #/25 is for the masses so you can feel good about it and I would too. But numero Uno/Uno ? nay nay I say.

TimBuckTwo 01-24-2025 12:24 PM
Here's the thing, you really do have a crack at them. Because most of them are sent to breakers. You have every opportunity to buy into those breaks. You had every opportunity to buy into the break done by a newer smaller shop in Minnesota that pulled the Brady superfractor.

This conversation hasn't been about whether or not Topps puppet-mastered exactly where this card was going. It's about whether or not the card was actually packed out.

It's funny how people will believe all of these well thought out, elaborate ruses over all these cards, but also think that Fanatics would be so dumb to never actually pack out the biggest driver of sales of a product.

Here's a return question for you: A breaker buys a case from BO and ends up pulling a massive card. Did you have a crack at that card? Or is BO also in the card illuminati and is being puppet-mastered by Fanatics?
Didn't say they were not packed out. Said they know where these cards are going.

Here is another conspiracy - You are a shill for Topps/Fanfan

There were two different things there. The last few pages of this thread has been about whether or not the card was "pulled." TBP moved his goal posts after it went to grading.

The rest of my comment was addressing your claim of you saying
Bottom line. Don't buy into the hype of thinking you have any crack at these major chase cards.
In that case, it doesn't matter if Fanatics is controlling exactly where those boxes with the big chase cards are going. You as a consumer have every opportunity to buy into a break with the breaker that got those cards. You have every crack at those cards as anyone else, you just choose not to participate. It's your own dam fault.

In order for your statement to be true, Fanatics has to control everything, and I mean everything. Right down to controlling those "random draw" breaks.
Can't speak for the rest, but in no way am I hoping he blows his arm out. Nor am I going to come back and say I told you so if it does happen. Not sure how you are taking someone saying it's going to happen or likely to happen as meaning they hope it happens but carry on.
Yes, you and the other 15 people saying this over and over like we don’t know make this very convincing. I don’t really care about skenes one way or the other I just find it odd. But carry on.

^^Ok my bs meter is growing. First, the handwriting looks and reads like a 6-year old and not an 11-year old. Second, if he pulled the redemption on Christmas, how did the card get back to him so quickly? Topps redemptions were always on the slow side from what I remember. And then getting into the hands of PSA for grading? All of this in under a month? Hmm....

vwnut13 01-24-2025 01:04 PM

I'm honestly surprised that card didn't get a PSA 11.

TimBuckTwo 01-24-2025 01:06 PM

It's over Johnny.

whitmm 01-24-2025 01:10 PM

Why is Fanatics Collect the only non-verified Fanatics account on Instagram?

That's the worst written diary entry ever. "I knew the prices would go up immediately." His parents told him about they secured his Christmas present a month in advance? Randomly writing in his diary "I am 11 years old." There's a whole lot of knowing exactly how much was spent, are parents doing that now-a-days?

But based on the very sketchy post, the card was released in the wild on release day, not deliberately held back by Fanatics for months to help sales.

There you go Fab, your heart-warming story. How many tens of thousands of dollars do you think the price will jump because of this?

JimEd14 01-24-2025 01:12 PM

It may be 100% on the level (and deep down I hope it is), but my lord this all feels so choreographed.

I have zero interest in getting worked up about it, but sheesh.

vwnut13 01-24-2025 01:14 PM

"It was $200 which is a lot, but considering the players and rookies it was fair"

My 20 year old college student has similar handwriting!

Also, it was a Redemption card I believe, so Topps already had it graded before he got it I guess? Of course it got a 10 . . .

Topps must have had the Skenes 1/1 ready to get shipped out by Christmas (it went on sale in early Nov?). Skenes's season was also done by the end of September so not surprising at all he was able to sign the card between end of Sep and Dec. IIRC they even posted a video of Skenes signing his debut patch card.

Possible....I was under the impression the kid had to redeem the redemption card. Maybe that's done online for something like this versus mailing the redemption card to Topps and then waiting eons for their processing team to get to it and ship it out.

As far as it being already graded, I have no idea if that was part of the redemption prize. I assumed it was a raw card but could be wrong.

I am 43 years old and my handwriting is maybe a tiny bit better than that kid's.

This isn’t just any ol’ regular redemption.

At this point though, any new info can and will be used to prove all the wild conspiracy theories here. So it doesn’t really matter what’s said by the family or Topps.

Sorry I should have explained better as my handwriting also sucks. It's not the handwriting I meant to call out, it's the content itself - written like a 6-year-old compared to an 11-year-old.

Some 6-year olds can still barely write their name. I have no issues with believing that's an 11-year old's writing. I mean we're talking 5th grade here.
