Typical Cubs...

Barely grasping to a 2nd wild card spot right now.

IgnatiusJReilly 09-07-2019 10:04 PM

Two blown saves in that one. Ouch. With Javy our with the thumb, I’m not liking the looks of our stretch run.

As much as I would like for the Cubs to make the playoffs, I think they may be better off not to. This club has a lot of holes to fix and if they make the playoffs they may think they only need to make a move or two to fix things.

Yeah they’re basically done. Why pitch to Yelich though... Next batter was Thames. It’s like the Cubs want him to get MVP.

Einstein43 09-07-2019 10:33 PM

Thanks maddon / brewers will buy you a cold one
That was rough. On the positive side, Castellanos is a revelation! Who is this guy?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Castellanos is in the midst of a hot streak but has a career slash line of .277/ .326/.470. He's been great for the 30 or so games he's been here but if people think he's going to be a 1.080 OPS guy they're kidding themselves.

I can't tell you how many of my friends are like re-sign Castellanos and trade Bryant. I can't help but laugh because it's like people have ADD or something. You're going to trade Bryant's career at this point for a guy who's played well for 30 games? 30 games?
Yeah they’re basically done. Why pitch to Yelich though... Next batter was Thames. It’s like the Cubs want him to get MVP.
I mean wasn't Maddon the guy who intentionally walk Bryce Harper 3 times in 2016? This is the same guy that thinks it's a good idea to now start pitching to Yelich with the game on the line?

I guess Theo and Jed see that as well otherwise he currently wouldn't be sitting without a deal. Now this is not to put all of the blame on Maddon but ever since the 2016 WS I haven't been really high on him. The FO definitely deserves blame as this team has been missing a leadoff guy and bullpen for a few years now. This team definitely needs retooling as it is not even close to a championship team.

FBGuy13 09-07-2019 11:07 PM

Disappointing to lose this one, but I am still optimistic that Chicago gets at least the Wild Card and I still think they can make a run at the a Cardinals - still 7 games left with the Cardinals. Not much room for error, but let's keep the faith. I think Lester will get the win tomorrow, and Cubs will win the season series against the Brewers.

Theo
has done a BRUTAL job with this club personnel since 2016
I'm more optimistic about Castellanos (resigning)
he was playing in a very non friendly power hitter park the last 5 years
He's a legit 25-30 HR guy who should be a middle of the order run producer (28-90.280 is what i think is reasonable for the next few years)
i still think they should keep KB

I’m not all for trading KB but Castellanos has been the pulse of this team since he came over. I’m all for a fairly priced contract to get him back.

KB is a great player. But he may be one of the least clutch players I’ve ever seen.

What a major league debut by Nico! Great to see him help spark the offense. Quite the jump from AA to the majors, but he looks like he is fitting in nicely, and wow do the Cubs need him right now!

WHyFLy 09-09-2019 11:56 PM

Couldn't help myself lol. Buddy of mine is a big Cubs fan and always had high hopes for this kid! Early snag when he hit his 1st RBI's. $57 after Ebay Bucks back, yes please!

Are the Cubs going to change their lineup for every game the rest of the season? Love that.

texmcpherson 09-10-2019 09:57 PM

My god is this team trying to miss the playoffs...?

Second major error on Zobrist in as many nights. Brewers won, sucks about Yelich for sure, but they’re playing much better ball the Cubs. I don’t see the Cubs hanging onto that 2nd WC. Probably for the best though.

evileddie 09-11-2019 01:02 AM

Horrible way to end that game.

IgnatiusJReilly 09-11-2019 08:18 AM

Oof. Cubs pitching blows great games by Heyward and Bryant. Walking in the game winning run is such a gut punch.

Well that was an ugly 9th, but a win is a win this time of year. I don’t think the Cubs can catch STL so I hope the sweep the Brewers this weekend.

They’re four games back and play them seven times. Of course they can catch them. [emoji2]

Mathematically yes, realistically no.

Hence the smile emoji.
It sucks that to make up a four game lead, we’d have to win six out of seven.
Mathematically yes, realistically no.
Realistically they can too. They just need to play better baseball.
