If this is a hit, I don't see why Topps wouldn't just start a second "forever" set down the road with a totally different design and have them run side by side. Maybe a "modern" looking set that is all chromed or something. I would buy both.

I love these cards. Really hoping they add a subscription model. Building a set and then missing a week 2 years down the road will suck.

I vote they skip card #7, like they used to, and if they ever get Mantle rights again, they fill it in. What says the hoard?

sthoemke 03-15-2018 04:54 PM

They should make cards of retired players for all of the teams they played for.

It would be great to see cards of Babe Ruth for both the Red Sox and the Yankees.

errr....

But seriously, I love the idea of this set. The design is flawless, antique and modern at the same time with artwork so spectacular, these are, in a way, non-sports cards (my usual interest), too, qualifying as an art set.

If the set does last, say 30 years, then beyond the obvious superstars, the short-printed cards from early on are going to have some really nice value, and players from the traditionally most collected teams, too.

I'll definitely be making a Dodger team set for an indefinite amount of time, that is, however long I live and have the extra few dollars (or quatloos, or BeyonceCoin, or whatever we're paying with in 2050). I'm sure we'll see Kershaw and Bellinger this year, plus one or two more actives for LA. With 156 cards per calendar year, it should be about 3 players per team per year if represented equally, right, with the rest for retired guys?

I think a real easy added-value variant they could make for us is to have the artist occasionally retouch a painting so the player's home jersey becomes a road jersey on every 50th card or something like that, and issue them randomly. Anyway, love the idea, and hope it lasts a looong time.

And this as well...I will shoot it to Topps as a suggestion.

I’m not sure how I’ve spent 45 years on this planet without ever seeing this picture, but now that I’ve seen it, I can die knowing that my life is complete.
i hope they stay in the '53 design forever. there are thousands of MLB baseball players throughout time
Couldn't agree more.

I want 1953 design and sports artist Mayumi Seto as the ONLY artist to do this set.

In 2020 when they do Felix Hernandez as card #291... I want 1953 design and Seto to be the one who does the work. :)!

That is what I would love as well. I want to talk about card 291 Felix Hernandez with the same passion as card 8 Nick Punto. Hint hint. Hell maybe get him in his old Phillies jersey and both me and Joe would be big buyers. Topps you now know my weakness.

How about this.....

Week 3 just happens to coincide with the start of the baseball season. Week 3 will release on Wednesday... season begins on Thursday.

Week 3 also just happens to be when card #7 will be released.....

Week 3... card #7... Mike Trout in Mickey Mantle pose from 1953 Topps.

I’m a basketball set collector primarily and I’ve been looking to get back into baseball. I was originally looking at the Now set and it was just too much with all the autos and swatches to master collect it. That said this Topps Living Set works for me perfectly. I’m all in on this one.

You will probably need to find a way to make her immortal then if this set is going to go on forever! ;)

$16.10 shipped with tax to NY - meh, beats spending it on retail.

poppincurbs 03-16-2018 12:04 PM

Yeah I just can't justify $60/month for 12 cards. I'm all in on singles of PC guys/teams, but I'm not paying $7.99 per. Unfortunately for Topps I think they just slightly over priced it, and are going to cause plenty of people to go to eBay for singles.

Can you imagine what this card will do in a few months? Remember 2016 Liriano #1? It was popular at the start...but once more and more people started getting into TN it blew up. They needed #1

Same thing will happen with Judge Living #1. It's new... but you have to think about 6 weeks down the road. There will be a few who are late to the party and they will want #1 Aaron Judge. He is already ROY and could very easily add an MVP and WS to his resume in the near future. Say he puts up another season similar to his ROY 2017... and people realize this will be his ONLY Living Set card..likely EVER. They will want Judge #1. He is under team control for the next couple seasons... so Topps Living Set #1 in 2020 will still be the only Yankees card he will have in this set. Still early but they might do All Star cards to help the program continue during a slow Winter.

You may think 4000-5500 is a big number... but is it really?

It wouldn’t bother me if they waited and did this with Card 82 to mirror the Mick in the 53 set. The jewel of my collection.

It’s not at all a big number. Ohtani 17,000 is evidence. I personally think his RTOD will fetch over $100 after print run. I view Judge as a $30 card in a couple months.
